CAN chewing gum prevent fine lines and sagging skin?

One beauty expert says yes, and also revealed the neck massage that may be the secret to aging more slowly.

On TikTok, Isabelle Lux shares beauty and fashion tips with her 338k followers, including the skincare strategies the 31-year-old uses to age more gracefully.

In a recent video, Lux demonstrated two facial exercises that target fine lines around the mouth – and cleared up a common misconception about aging.

"Today we're going to be combating facial aging," Lux said. "Most people think that facial aging has to do with wrinkles, so they'll get a little Botox and it will be done."

But that's not the solution, Lux said. "Most facial aging actually has to do with the tissue in our faces dropping over time."

To keep your facial skin from sagging, Lux said, you need to properly exercise the muscles in your jaw and neck.

Luckily, that's easy to do, and inexpensive, too – all you need for the first facial workout is a pack of gum.

"The first thing we're going to address is our smile lines," Lux said. "What you want to do for that is smile, and chew up."

She showed what she meant: first, Lux grinned widely, then chewed, lifting her cheeks high up near her eyes.

"You want to be activating this muscle right here," she said, pointing to the area between her eyes and the apples of her cheeks.

Though it may look and feel strange, Lux said, doing the exercise for a few minutes each day can strengthen muscles and keep the face looking heart-shaped and youthful.

Then, she moved on to the surprising way she combats "marionette lines," the thin parentheses that appear on either side of the mouth.

"They're going to appear a little bit later in life, but trust me, you really don't want them," Lux said.

The smile lines are connected to a band of muscle in the side of the neck, the beauty expert explained.

"It's literally just as simple as giving yourself a little massage," Lux said.

Lux recommended viewers massage each side for one minute each day, and added that they can use any oil when they try the hack at home. She used coconut oil to lubricate the area.

The massage might look and feel strange at first, but Lux called it essential maintenance for anti-aging skincare.

"It's like brushing your teeth," she explained. "In the long run, 10 years down the road, you're going to be happy you did it."
