THERE are certain unwritten wedding etiquette rules to follow, from not wearing white to RSVPing in a timely manner.

When a Reddit user's family broke a very important rule, she made a drastic decision that caused drama for everyone involved.

A Reddit user shared a post where she detailed how she had uninvited her sister-in-law from her wedding and received backlash from her family.

The divisive decision was a result of the original poster's sister-in-law, Kate, trying on the bride's wedding dress, and accidentally damaging it.

The Reddit user explained: "I was devastated when my mom reached out and told me that the dress had been damaged due to Kate having a seizure while trying it on, and spilling something."

The bride-to-be detailed the close relationship that her sister-in-law has with her mother, who encouraged her to try on the dress.

"My mom tried explaining that it was sentimental as it was her dress first, and she wanted to see Kate in it," the original poster wrote.

She continued: "[My mother] said she brought it to the best cleaner and will pay whatever, but I'm still pissed and feel really violated."

"I decided that I don't want Kate at the wedding, because I feel so creeped out that she put the dress on," the user explained.

The original poster told other Reddit users how her family reacted to the news.

"My mom says I'm being unfair as it was her dress first. Kate called me 'psycho' and said it's ok because my mom told her to," she said.

The bride concluded: "My brother is upset and thinks I'm being cruel because the seizure wasn't her fault."

Reddit users were divided on whether the bride was justified in her decision to uninvite her sister-in-law.

"Wait… What did Kate do? You're mother is the one that asked her to try on the dress. Why are you not upset with your mother?" asked one reader.

A second person said: "For the love of all that is holy, do not wear that cursed dress! Tell your mom & Kate, 'it’s ok, you clearly wanted Kate to have it' and get your own dress."

"It’s common dang knowledge that if a bride plans to wear on a certain dress, you don’t try it on yourself. Even if the mother begged her to try it on, she should have said no," commented another user.

"Your brother is also 100% justified in being upset. It is his wife, and they are a unit. When you uninvited her, you effectively uninvited him, or at least put him in a REALLY awful situation," pointed out another reader.
