AFTER spending a great deal of time in his mum’s garden during the Covid-19 lockdowns, one son took it upon himself to give the space a facelift on a budget.

Admitting that they “neglected” the garden for months, Nick Richards said he finally decided to do something about it for his mum and their three greyhound dogs.

Showing a before clip of the space, viewers could see how barren it looked, with hardly any greenery in it.

“Eventually, once we had some money saved and some time off work, it was time to say goodbye to our junkyard garden and start clearing it out,” he explained.

He took four dump runs to get rid of the garbage in the garden before removing all the weeds to make “space for new plants and flowers”.

After jet washing all the tiles and stones to get rid of “years of grime”, he then took a few paint brushes to give the fences a fresh coat.

Eventually, he switched to a spray paint to get the job done easier and faster.

The big job of the garden was to build two new patio areas, which meant he had to take a trip to a hardware store to get some weed control, sharp sand, patio slabs and stones.

He also bought some plants and flowers to make the garden feel “like a proper outdoorsy space” as it brought back some wildlife and colour.

The initial makeover looked incredible, but Nick said he went out in the garden to look after the plants every day.

And, eventually, he did some reshuffling of the patio tiles in a bid to make it look neat and keep it dirt-free from the flower pots.

He later also invested in a greenhouse to give them the space to grow new flowers and vegetables, too.

In total, Nick spent £500 on the makeover, leaving his mum very happy with the results.

“This is everything we did to transform our Council House Garden over the past year. It's been a journey and I'm so proud of how the garden looks now! I hope you enjoy this video recap!” Nick wrote in the caption of the clip on YouTube.
