DEEMED an essential supplement by wellness guru Kourtney Kardashian, lion's mane is the new trendy mushroom – but not the psychedelic kind.

To test the power of the shroom, I took three capsules of Om's lion's mane every day for a week, and I've never felt more level-headed.

Lion's mane received the coveted Kardashian stamp of approval when Kourtney released her gummy version.

The $30 Lemme Focus Concentration Gummies contain citicoline, organic lion's mane, organic MCT oil, and vitamin B12.

She claims that four ingredients work together to clear the mind and heighten concentration levels.

On its own, lion's mane mushroom is said to improve the growth rate of brain cells.

According to Healthline: "Lion’s mane mushrooms contain bioactive substances that have beneficial effects on the body, especially the brain, heart, and gut."

While there aren't a ton of proven studies to fully support all possible health benefits, lion's mane is linked to protection and relief against several conditions.

It may protect against dementia, "ulcers in the digestive tract," heart disease, and cancer.

Additionally, research shows that lion's mane could boost the immune system, manages diabetes, aid nervous system injuries, and help with mild depression and anxiety.

The mushroom is majorly used in East Asian medicine, as reported by WebMD.

After seeing Kourtney's gummies and Bella Hadid's use of the supplement version in her new Erewhon smoothie "Kinsicle," I was tempted to try it.

Instead of buying expensive gummies, I opted for the cheaper and purer version.

Plus, I knew Kourtney wouldn't let her product taste bad, and I was curious if this mushroom – which is found at the end of dead hardwood trees – would taste funky.

I bought the $20.38 Om Mushroom Superfood Brain Fuel Mushroom Powder Capsules.

This brand blended lion's mane with folate and reishi for immune support and mind-stimulating effects.

And let me tell you, my mind has never been more stimulated or relaxed.

However, my first impression wasn't so great.

The smell is very interesting – and not in a good way. When you open the bottle, you immediately get a musty whiff.

While some have compared the aroma to the smell of fish, I would say it's more like aged mold.

Yet, unless you suck all the powder out of the dissolvable capsule, you can't taste anything.

Swallowing three each day doesn't require you to fill your stomach, but I recommend doing so beforehand.

For the supplement to work, your stomach has to digest the three mushroom pills, and that didn't feel good having not eaten anything.

The pills sat at the bottom of my stomach and I could feel them there.

It was like the lion's mane capsules were a meal that didn't satisfy me.

After the first couple of days, I didn't feel much different. I was definitely convincing myself that I was more focused on the lion's mane.

On the fourth day, I began to notice my anxiety levels go down.

Rather than being anxious, my mind was concentrating on thinking rationally.

I noticed my motivation increase as well as my productivity levels.

As someone who tends to procrastinate and overthink more than I should, I was finding ways to make sure I didn't do either.

My usual jumbled mind was starting to clean up and get organized.

But I wasn't just taking lion's mane. I was exercising and eating healthy too.

The healthy mix made my body feel the best it has in a long time.

Though it's only been a week, and the possibility of the placebo effect is high, I still noticed my body and mind improving and settling more.

In my opinion, Kourtney and Bella are on to something with this mushroom – and so far, I like where it's going.
