Ty Dolla $ign shared a pensive new track over the weekend. Aptly titled “2022,” the rapper uses the song as a platform to look back on the chaotic past year, namely a relationship that he won’t be bringing with him into 2023.

In an interesting move, Dolla $ign doesn’t rap on the track, but rather, sings in a ballad-style croon.

“Is this where our story ends? Or is it where it begins?,” he muses. “The fact that we can’t be friends, it’s so unfortunate, leavin’ it all behind, 2022.”

An accompanying music video serves as a documentary-style snapshot of 2022, flicking between snapshots of the rapper hanging out with Future and Wiz Khalifa, driving through his native city of Los Angeles and of course, clocking in hours at the recording studio.

For Dolla $ign’s last full-length project, 2021’s Cheers to the Best Memories, he teamed up with dvsn for a compact LP that featured Rauw Alejandro, YG and even posthumous bars from the late Mac Miller.

In other music news, Future welcomed 2023 with a “BACK TO THE BASICS” music video.
