Leading music platform Spotify is expanding into the artist merch domain, with plans to produce fully-fledged capsule collections in collaboration with some of its top-performing artists.
Kicking things off, Spotify launched its inaugural collection with Mexican artist Peso Pluma last week, in celebration of Día de los Meurtos, or Day of the Dead. The lineup inlcuded a bevy of hoodies, T-shirts, jerseys and bandanas — all of which boast signature iconography and imagery from Pluma’s recent works. The collection is available to shop on Spotify’s webstore, with prices ranging from $20 USD to $120 USD.
“Spotify has always supported my music, since Day One, so it made sense to align with them,” said Pluma in a statement. “I use these capsule items in my day-to-day so I want my fans to have them as well. They have a special meaning to Mexican culture.”
On Tuesday of this week, Spotify will expand its apparel offerings with a new collection dedicated to Daft Punk. Honoring the 10th anniversary of their lauded record, Random Access Memories, the capsule is set to include illustrative hoodies, iconographic T-shirts and a crystal logo clock.
Following the Daft Punk collection’s launch, Spotify has plans to craft collection for artists including Tyler, the Creator, Tems and Rosalía.
