For the first time ever, Seiko will be launching a dedicated timepiece for Shohei Ohtani, Los Angeles Angels’ current pitcher, designated hitter, and outfielder. Releasing as a limited-edition of 1,700 pieces, the Shohei Ohtani Prospex Diver goes by the reference of SBDC191 will be available only in both parties’ native country, Japan.

The SBDC191 is based on Seiko’s modern Prospex divers, specifically bearing identical design cues and characteristics of the SPB14 series. Outfitted in a 40.5mm steel case, the watch also subtly nods to the Los Angeles Angels’ team colors with its silver-hued dial and red seconds-hand. Echoing the watch case’s construction, the watch is paired with. a steel bracelet, which features an engraving of Ohtani’s signature just below the fold-over clasp.

Living up to its nature as a diver’s watch, the SBDC191 is capable of withstanding 200 meters underwater. It’s equipped with the Seiko 6R35 automatic caliber that offers the essential hour, minutes, seconds, and date indications, on top of a 70 hours power reserve.

Priced at ¥187,000 JPY (approximately $1,200 USD), the Japan-exclusive SBDC191 will be officially released in August. In the meantime, those who are interested can keep an eye out on Seiko Japan’s social media and official website for any forthcoming updates.
