One of only four Daniels Anniversary wristwatches manufactured in platinum is being offered for sale by London-based dealer A Collected Man.

The Anniversary Watch was conceived in 2010, a year before the death of Dr George Daniels, a self-taught horologist who pioneered the Daniels Method of producing every element of a watch and is widely regarded as one of the greatest watchmakers in history.

His plan with the Anniversary Watch was to produce a run of wristwatches containing a hand-made English movement, made in his Isle of Man studio using the Co-Axial escapement he had developed some 35 years earlier and which he had then recently sold to Omega.

Today, Daniel’s Co-Axial escapement keeps time in every single new Omega sold.

With Daniels not physically fit enough to take on the project himself he called upon the services of his former apprentice, Roger W Smith, to help him produce the 43 watches of which four were platinum, four white gold and 35 yellow gold.

The Anniversary Watch is manually wound with a power reserve indicator, calendar and small seconds which has the same classic aesthetic as Daniels’ tourbillon chronograph pocket watch made in 1994.

The piece currently being offered by A Collected Man is also the only Daniels Anniversary Watch to bear the number 00 and the first in platinum to surface for public sale. The other three platinum pieces remain in private collections.

A Collected Man has listed the watch as Price on Application. The last Daniels Anniversary Watch to sell publicly was one of the yellow gold examples, going for 456,250 CHF ($504,400 USD) at Phillips in 2019.

In other watch news, IWC has produced a tribute to its ceramic Black Flieger 3705 chronograph in Ceratanium.
