Following the duo’s first military-led rugby capsule for Fall/Winter 2021, Nigel Cabourn and Umbro reconnect for a second retro sportswear collection inspired by vintage British Army recruit training gear and the Army Gymnastic Staff of Cabourn’s era. Taking inspiration from the archives while keeping in mind contemporary design cues, Cabourn’s seven-piece collection revitalizes casual gym wear and uniform from the ’40s and ’50s for a modern audience. “My first Umbro collab collection was a reference to the brand’s British sporting heritage as well as its connection with the rugby world,” the British designer commented. “But with this second capsule I wanted to give Umbro the complete Cabourn seal of approval with a set of styles inspired by the Army Gym design personality which is so close to my heart.”

Highlighted in the collection are new interpretations of Umbro’s classic Drill Top reimagined as the POH Training Top in loopback marl-grey cotton jersey. The POH pullover is defined by a self-fabric patch chest pocket, ribbed underarm gusset, rear print co-branding, and herringbone interior neck tape. Continuing the training themes are navy tracksuits in French navy cotton sateen. Bottoms options include both shorts and logo-carrier pants while track tops feature two-way zip “NC” felt lettering and dual-branded globe motifs on the back.

Rounding out the collection are three short-sleeve polo shirts in “Dark Navy,” “Off-White,” and “Washed Army Green” crafted in cotton Aertex fabric with a zip-to-collar elastic waist, and “UMBRO” felt applique lettering across the back.

Nigel Cabourn and Umbro’s second collaboration is set to arrive on Umbro and Cabourn’s websites and at select stockists April 28.
