To compete with Tesla‘s Model S Plaid and other high-performance EVs, American automaker Lucid Motors has now unveiled its own top-end line for its vehicles, named Sapphire. Designed to offer a complete premium experience, the new Sapphire badge will be introduced with the Lucid Air Sapphire, an “ultra-high-performance” make of its Air model.

The car uses a powertrain of three motors with two at the rear and one up front to push out a staggering 1,200 horsepower, translating to a sub-tw0-second 0-60 mph time and a 0-100 mph time of less than four seconds. At a top speed of 200 mph, it’ll also cover a quarter mile in just under nine seconds.

Of course, there are also a series of other performance upgrades to handle all that power. To keep handling nimble at speed, the three motors have been built with torque vectoring capabilities that’ll make turn-ins smoother while wider bodywork on the exterior will allow the Lucid Air Sapphire to fit the automaker’s own Aero Sapphire wheels with special Michelin tires, providing more contact with the asphalt. You can also expect custom tuning from a whole series of features such as antilock braking and power steering as well as stiffer bushings and suspension system.

For those interested in the Lucid Air Sapphire, the automaker will start accepting pre-orders for the premium EV starting on August 23. Pricing starts at $249,000 USD.

In other related news, Brabus has also unveiled its own flagship high-performance EV.
