Jodie Foster will be playing a cop in the frozen wilds of Alaska in the next season of True Detective, and now we’ve been given a first look at her character.

Last year it was announced that Jodie, 60, would be starring in the crime drama, with her character to be called Liz Danvers.

Starting her career as a child in Freaky Friday, Jodie went on to carve a successful path mostly in movies, including Silence of the Lambs.

This new project is set to mark her first regular TV role since 1974, when she starred in Paper Moon.

Now an image of her in the series has been released, with HBO sharing the snap of Jodie alongside her co-star Kali Reis.

‘The darkness of the Arctic falls heavy upon #NightCountry,’ the caption read, while the photo showed them both rugged up standing in a snowy environment shrouded in darkness while staring out into the distance.

In the background, their police truck has its lights on shining onto whatever has captured their attention.

Last year the description for this season teased that the series would follow Jodie investigating the mysterious disappearances of six people from a research station in Alaska in the anthology series.

‘When the long winter night falls in Ennis, Alaska, the six men that operate the Tsalal Arctic Research Station vanish without a trace,’ the synopsis said.

‘To solve the case, Detectives Liz Danvers and Evangeline Navarro will have to confront the darkness they carry in themselves, and dig into the haunting truths that lie buried under the eternal ice.’

Jodie is also an executive producer for the upcoming season, while scripts have been written Issa Lopez.

Since premiering in 2014, each season of True Detective has followed new characters and scenarios.

The debut season starred Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey, Taylor Kitsch, Rachel McAdams and Colin Farrell fronted the second, and Mahershala Ali lead the third.

True Detective currently streams on HBO Max in the US.
