Take-Two has dropped some heavy hints that GTA 6 will be out relatively soon, calling their next financial year an ‘inflection point.’
There’s still no clue as to when it will be revealed, but Rockstar Games owner Take-Two Interactive has once again implied that Grand Theft Auto 6 is going to be out within their next financial year, which runs from next April until the end of March 2025.
This is not the first time they’ve hinted as much, as back in May they described their next financial year as a ‘new era’ in which they were set to make over $5 billion in just 12 months. They never said how but it’s clear they’re not going to make that back from any of their normal games.
Now their hints about GTA 6 have got even more obvious, as CEO and chariman Straus Zelnick stated that, ‘We remain confident that we are positioning our business for a significant inflection point in fiscal 2025, which we believe will include new record levels of operating performance.’
Although the NBA 2K series does well for them sports game sales are, by design, always largely the same, year-on-year, and there’s nothing else Take-Two has that could guarantee that sort of impact.
Certainly, if it was some new franchise or licence there’s nothing that they could be that confident about, especially as this was a sober financial discussion and not something that was necessarily meant to be heard by ordinary gamers.
‘We would like to thank all of our stakeholders for their continued support, and we look forward to delivering on this exciting next chapter,’ is the only other thing Zelnick said.
Most existing predictions for GTA 6 have suggested it will be released in either 2024 or 2025, so in that sense this is no surprise – even though officially all Rockstar has ever done is admit the game exists.
What’s less obvious is when the game will be announced, as given it’s a guaranteed hit (hence Take-Two’s confidence) Rockstar can do as much or as little promotion for it as it likes, and it’ll still sell as well.
So, in theory, it could be announced tomorrow or just a few weeks before release. What is unlikely though is that it’ll be at Gamescom or The Game Awards, or any of the traditional preview events.
Rockstar never usually has much to do with them at the best of times and in this case is likely to feel that they don’t need them and can manage everything on their own.
