DC Comics has just dropped the official trailer for Part One of its long-awaited animated movie Batman: The Long Halloween.

Separated into two parts, the new film is based on the hit mid-’90s Batman comic series of the same name from Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale, which follows the Caped Crusader in his early days of crime-fighting. Kicking off with a bloody murder on Halloween, Batman finds himself teaming up with two of the best from Gotham’s law enforcement — James Gordon and Harvey Dent — to fight The Roman, the leader of the infamous Falcone Crime Family. Despite their efforts, the three are confronted with more deaths on both Thanksgiving and Christmas, ultimately realizing that they’re dealing not with gangs but instead with a serial killer that targets holidays. The chase begins when Batman sets off to uncover who this Holiday Killer really is.

Returning to the Batman universe is Smallville‘s Jensen Ackles, who moves on from his role as the Jason Todd/Red Hood back in 2010 to becoming the Dark Knight himself this time around. The late Naya Rivera voices for Selina Kyle/Catwoman, joined by Josh Duhamel as Harvey Dent, Billy Burke as James Gordon, Titus Welliver as Carmine Falcone, David Dastmalchian as Calendar Man, Troy Baker as Joker, and Alastair Duncan as Alfred.

For fans of DC, Batman: The Long Halloween, Part One will arrive sometime this summer, followed by Part Two in the fall.
