Arca has shared a visual for “Ritual,” one of the bonus tracks on last year’s installment of her Kick album series. Inspired by the “prenatal kick” of a baby, the Venezuelan artist has put out five albums in the series thus far, exploring themes of spirituality, sexuality, gender and her own upbringing and transformation.
Most of the songs in the series, in true Arca fashion, are experimental, intertwining lyrics with sounds ranging from synth beats to the distorted mechanical functions one would hear coming out of a factory. The 28-song Kick, which dropped in December, sees the artist continue to surprise fans with fresh abstractions of sounds and rhythms.
Directed by Albert Moya, who also directed Arca’s “Cayó” visual, the futuristic sees Arca dance to the eclectic beats of “Ritual” in an empty warehouse.
“This video is for the freaks, for the outcasts, for the dispossessed, for the weirdos, for the migrants, for the shunned, the mocked, the ridiculed, the misunderstood, the othered,” Arca said.
