Former This Morning presenter Fern Britton received a surprise video message from Mamma Mia! Star Amanda Seyfried, who wished her luck in her upcoming performance on All Star Musicals At Christmas. Fern, 64, was gearing up to sing her rendition of Super Trouper on the big stage when she heard the unexpected words of encouragement.
Fern’s mentor Samantha Barks, 31, revealed she had a surprise in store on yesterday’s special of All Star Musicals.
Samantha began by inviting Fern to the Novello Theatre, which is the home of Mamma Mia! the stage musical, and went on to reveal that she was actually friends with Amanda.
Amanda, 36, starred in the hit 2008 film as Sophie Sheridan, who is the daughter of Donna Sheridan (played by Meryl Streep).
In the ABBA-themed musical, Donna gives a dazzling performance of Super Trouper with friends Tanya and Rosie at her daughter Sophie’s bachelorette party.
In her message to Fern, Amanda said: “Hi Fern, I just wanted to say, break a leg with Super Trouper.
“I think the secret to Super Trouper is to have fun. We’re rooting for you!” she added, positioning herself in front of the camera with her adorable pet dog.
Fern was overcome with emotion upon hearing the kind message, even wiping her eyes as she was brought to tears.
“Oh my goodness. It started to make me very emotional, and it made me want to cry,” she told the camera.
Fern seemed nervous at first about singing in front of a crowd, but her confidence grew as her training continued, allowing her to own her performance on the night.
Nevertheless, her rendition of the ABBA hit wasn’t enough to secure her first place.
Instead, Coronation Street’s Catherine Tyldesley was crowned the winner, after she blew audiences away with her performance of Memories from Cats.
Fern is an author and television presenter, best known for presenting Ready Steady Cook from 1994 to 2000 and This Morning from 1999 to 2009.

This is not Fern’s first foray into the performing arts, as the star also previously participated in Strictly Come Dancing in 2012, where she was paired with professional dancer Artem Chigvintsev.
The pair were voted out in week 6, with gymnast Louis Smith and his partner Flavia Cacace going on to win the competition.
Meanwhile, Fern’s All Star Musicals mentor Samantha has an impressive musical theatre background.
The star rose to fame after placing third in the BBC talent show series I’d Do Anything, where Andrew Lloyd Webber would choose who would play Nancy in the 2009 West End revival of the musical Oliver!.
After appearing on the show, Samantha went on to win various awards and accolades for her film debut as Éponine in the 2012 film adaptation of the musical Les Misérables.
Amanda also starred in the film as the character Cosette, alongside other A-listers including Hugh Jackman, Anne Hathaway, Russell Crowe and Eddie Redmayne.
Before gaining acclaim for her musical theatre chops on the big screen, the Mamma Mia! actress was probably best known for her roles as Karen Smith in 2004’s Mean Girls and murdered teen Lilly Kane in Veronica Mars, which came out the same year.
All Star Musicals At Christmas is available to stream on ITV Hub.
