Tony Hadley says Spandau Ballet will never reform
Spandau Ballet legend Tony Hadley was due to take to the stage as the headlining act at the Clearer Water Antrim Coast Half Marathon Live Lounge on Sunday but was rushed to hospital just before his performance was due to begin.
Fans had been eagerly awaiting the 63-year-old crooner’s appearance in Larne, Northern Ireland, and he took part in a meet and greet earlier that day.
However, Tony it was reported that he seemed uncomfortable.
During the subsequent sound check, his health worsened, forcing him to break the news to organisers that he wasn’t well enough to perform.
Music PR Michelle McTernan, who was in charge of the event, told the Belfast Telegraph: “We had to do what was right by him and he was taken to hospital, and his crew have all gone with him, to stick together. We hope he gets better soon.”

Another organiser, Ruth McIlroy, stated: “A lot of the crowd heard him do his sound check, but unfortunately he clearly wasn’t feeling well and he got worse as the evening went on.
“Medics on site were very clear he needed to go to hospital,” she added, pointing out that “performers are not robots” and need rest and recuperation too.
“It is disappointing because we had a great day with the half marathon earlier, and Tony singing would have been the icing on the cake, but we have to take care of people, and we are more concerned that he’ll be OK.”
The dad-of-five’s sudden health woes came as a shock as he’d been spiritedly touring his solo music, even taking part in a 40-date UK tour last year to celebrate his 40 years in music.

The star had previously been the lead singer of Spandau Ballet for years, leaving when the group disbanded in 1990 and pursuing a solo career.
There had been bad feeling between members when, together with drummer John Keeble and saxophonist Steve Norman, Tony attempted to sue guitarist Gary Kemp over royalties.
The trio were unsuccessful, and Tony pursued his own solo projects for decades.
He then returned to the band in 2009, before leaving in 2017 – and this time he’s adamant that he won’t be returning to his former group.
Tony insisted to the Mirror earlier this year: “You could offer me all the tea in China and I wouldn’t get back with them.
“There’s no way. I’m pretty easy-going, it takes a lot to get to that point but once you’ve pushed me and crossed that line, that’s it. I’m done.”
On Sunday, local Belfast singer Brendan Quinn, who had originally been booked as a short support act, stepped in to save the day, alongside fiddler Ciara Maguire, and performed for one and a half hours.
The cause of Tony’s hospital dash has not yet been announced.
