While fans are gearing up for the all new Great Celebrity Bake Off, Rob Beckett, 35, is gearing up to watch his first time attempt at baking air to millions across the UK – nerve-racking to say the least. But it wasn’t his choice to sign up for the Stand up to Cancer version; he did it because his wife Louise Watts, wanted him to.

I just wanted her to stop having a go at me

Speaking about his upcoming appearance, Rob addressed his sudden interest to become the next best baker.

“This was the first time I’ve baked a cake, which isn’t ideal for someone on Bake Off,” he laughed.

“I’ll be honest, I got bullied into going on the show because my wife [Louise Watts] is obsessed with it.

“I just wanted her to stop having a go at me!”

But with his inexperience, the comedian treated it all as a bit of fun.

“I had nothing to lose,” he shrugged, even finding the judge’s sometimes brutal critiquing funny.

He continued: “It was quite amusing when Paul was trying to be intimidating.

“He said, ‘I’m going to judge your baking later’ and I cheekily replied, ‘Of course, that’s what you do! Go for it, mate. Whatever you fancy!'”

But it’s safe to say that this is not a hobby Rob will be looking to take on further, insisting he “absolutely did not” walk away with a new found enthusiasm for baking.

“Once you’ve done it in the Bake Off tent, why bother at home?” he said.

“I’m not saying that as a negative thing, it was such a great experience, but why would you ever try to re-create it!

“It’s like going to the Reading Festival when you’re 18. You go back at 43 and think, ‘What the hell am I doing?’

“Keep the memory and do something else.”
