Paddy McGuinness, 49, and his now-ex-wife Christine, 35, shocked fans when they announced their split in 2022 after 11 years of marriage.

Now a source has claimed the Top Gear star is “struggling” with the break-up as Christine leads a “separate life” with a busy work schedule.

“Paddy has been reaching out to people after the split because he is struggling. Christine and Paddy both have very separate lives now,” the source told OK!.

“Christine has so much work on, she has documentaries, but Paddy is less busy and he is struggling with it.”

The claims come after Paddy recently admitted he feels “homesick” whenever he has to work away from home, as he continues to live with Christine and their three children – Penelope and Leo, nine, and Felicity, seven.

Paddy recently spent time away when he travelled to South Africa for his latest Channel 4 show, Tempting Fortunes.

Speaking to The Sun’s TV magazine, Paddy pointed out his busy schedule as he explained how much he struggles when he is away from his family.

He admitted: “I’ve always had a sort of rule that I stick by where I never do more than nine days anywhere because I just like being at home. I think naturally you get homesick.

“When I used to do Take Me Out, for instance, you think a bit differently because you’re in the UK, so psychologically it isn’t that bad, but Take Me Out used to take a week, So Take Me Out, weirdly, out of everything I’ve done, is the show that took me away from home the longest.”

Paddy said he keeps in contact with his loved ones via video call, while contestants are not allowed to contact their families.

He continued: “It’s when you’re in the position these guys [the contestants on Tempting Fortune] are in, where you’ve literally got zero contact with your family, that’s when the chips are really down.”

Christine previously admitted she stayed in her marriage to Paddy because it felt “safe” at the time, due to “not liking change”.

Speaking in her BBC documentary Unmasking My Autism, Christine said she felt safe when she met the presenter when she was 19, not knowing her own autism diagnosis at the time.

She explains on the show: “My relationships before I met Patrick were not very good. I’d say they were pretty bad experiences. Before Patrick, I had been sexually abused, I was raped. I used to pray every night that I wouldn’t wake up in the morning because it was so awful.

“When I met my husband that was a time when I was very safe and I wonder if that’s why I stayed. I know that I’ve stayed in a place where I was probably unhappy because it was safe and I don’t like change.”
