Saturday Kitchen: Les Dennis shares why he 'hates' cheese
Former Coronation Street star Les Dennis has revealed that he first encountered ex-wife Amanda Holden’s current husband in a far from conventional setting.
The popular 69-year-old actor admitted that the Britain’s Got Talent star’s record producer husband Chris Hughes is actually the son of his former agent and he first encountered him as a child!
Chris’ father Michael, a theatrical agent, promoted Les’ career, along with other comedy stars such as Russ Abbot and Bella Emberg.
It was shortly after he became Les’ agent when he met a young Chris, as he detailed the moment on Kate Thornton’s Podcast White Wine Question Time.
“When Mike became my manager in 1973 and Lynne and I were about to get married, my first wife, Lynne, we were excited that Mike had become my manager,” he recollected.

“She said, ‘let’s drive past his house’ because he lived on Queens Drive in Liverpool…we passed, and the curtains were open, and I went, ‘look, there he is’, and we saw Mike Hughes picking up a little child and swinging the child around.”
The child was a young Chris and the irony wasn’t to be lost on Lynne, who was married to Les from 1974 until 1990.
He recalled: “Lynne, later, after a lot of things had happened in my life said to me, ‘Just think, if we’d known then, had somebody tapped on our shoulders as we were sat in the front of the car and said to us then that you two are going to marry next year, but your marriage won’t last, and you Les will marry a younger woman who will one day then marry the child that is being swung around in that room.”
Amanda and Les married when he was 40 and she was 23 and they were wed from 1995 until 2003 following her highly publicised affair with Men Behaving Badly star Neil Morrissey.
Earlier this month he opened up about their relationship and admitted that although he no longer keeps in touch with Amanda, now 52, he is pleased she has said nice things about him.

“Amanda was in the papers recently, saying some nice things about me,” he told The Sunday Times. “That was very kind of her. Maybe with time she has been able to look back and see things differently.”
He added: “We’re not in touch but I am happy that she’s happy. I can watch Britain’s Got Talent without getting angry. To be honest, it’s like watching a different person, someone I’ve never met. All the hurt that has happened has been healed.”
Amanda and Chris said “I do” in 2008 and have two children together Alexa, born in 2006 and Hollie who was born 2012.
Les married his third wife Claire Nicholson in 2009.
