Katy Perry fans were concerned that their idol had suffered a muscle spasm after her eye seemed to lock while she was blinking. The star seemed momentarily unable to open it at all as it twitched – and the moment went viral.

Yet as onlookers pointed out her “mechanical failure”, the Firework singer was quick to point out that it had been no accident – and that she had intentionally been channeling a “broken doll”.

She also clarified that she was not really able to “lactate hops” after fans saw her come onstage in a dress that featured a beer can built into each bra cup.

In a post advertising her 2023 PLAY tour dates, the 38-year-old broke her silence on the trick that had everyone shocked and transfixed.

“Welcoming all my #flatearthers #spaceisfakers #birdsarentrealers #skyisntbluers to come see my broken doll eye party trick IRL in Vegas next year!” she announced on Instagram.

The star continued to her 177 million followers: “The show’s setlist is a fun ride through memory lane going all the way back to 2008, a time when we weren’t all frozen by the paranoia of our own echo chambers!

“This show is a nonstop party about finding unconditional love and strangely (for me) not political at all, heck I pour beer out of my t*ts (that’s a party trick too…I don’t actually lactate hops silly goose!)”

She added: “Hope to sing along with you in 2023! And we’ll drink, this one’s on me, cause we’re all #chainedtothealgorithm #therealproblemlolhaha.”

Fans had previously been concerned that the glue from her fake eyelashes had stuck her eye together and sealed it closed.

Meanwhile, fans have also been agape at the sight of her space-age silver metallic dress, which had beer cans built into its design.

She also paired the look with silver metallic thigh high boots for the ultimate costume in the video footage she uploaded.

More than 800,000 fans flooded the ‘like’ button when they saw the post, with @crystalkirbz joking: “So ur telling me ur not a robot, a real life doll?” (sic)

Meanwhile, makeup artist @lanareiss quizzed: “HOW DO I DO THIS!?!? I want to learn so bad!!” (sic) – a comment which received 174 likes.

Katy turned 38 this week, and posted a photo of fiancé Orlando Bloom, 45, and their two-year-old daughter Daisy on Instagram to mark the occasion.

The post showed three hands – one belonging to each of them – as they celebrated unity in their family life.

“Every time I blow a candle out I always wish for you. 38 and grateful,” she captioned the sentimental snap.

She received almost one and a half million birthday wishes from fans on the post, some of whom used it to express excitement about the new clothing collection she is releasing next week.

If some of Katy’s previous stage costumes are anything to go by, then the collection – which drops on 2 November – is guaranteed to be sensational.

She is perhaps best known for incorporating food into her outfits, having appeared onstage with ice cream and cupcakes built into her outfits in the past.

Katy has also channeled a jungle girl in a leaf skirt and leopard print bikini combo, while on another occasion she wore a giant chandelier head-dress which sparkled with crystals, and she is equally well known for her mermaid looks.

On the more comedic side of things, she has even dressed up as a giant hamburger – and fans are eager to see whether her 81-piece capsule collection will prove more down to earth.
