Broadcaster James Whale says he will no longer be alive this time next year after revealing that he has reached the end of treatment for terminal cancer.
The outspoken radio star, 72, was first diagnosed with kidney cancer in 2000 before the disease returned in 2020 and spread to his brain, spine and lungs. Now he has admitted that he believes he will no longer be alive this time next year, saying: “I’m kind of at the end, the end of my treatment.”
The broadcaster and his second wife Nadine Lamont-Brown, who wed in 2021, attended the Television and Radio Industries Club awards together this week. And the Mirror reported him as saying with typical trademark humour: “When I lose a lot more weight when I get really ill, I’ll look fantastic.

“I’ve just come off all the steroids I was on, which made me look like a bloody balloon. I’m feeling better from that.”
The TalkRADIO host added: “The cancer gets into your head and sometimes you can’t stand noise. At the moment, I have got cancer fatigue, which makes you very tired.
“Some days I might feel sorry for myself. I feel sorry for my wife really. It’s more difficult for her.”
Nadine said: “He’s had all the possible treatments, he’s on a clinical trial but we’re probably going to be winding up on that quite soon. It’s stopped working.”
James’s first wife Melinda died from lung cancer in 2018 at the age of 68, just months after her diagnosis.
The pair had been married for 48 years and had two sons. James revealed that he had considered assisted death in a Swiss clinic.
However, the Mirror says he has chosen to spend the time he has left with his family.
