Helen Skelton has been a firm fixture on Springtime On The Farm alongside Jules Hudson and farmers Rob and Dave Nicholson since the show’s debut last year. The small-screen star has admitted she has been left “overwhelmed” by the response from viewers as the former Blue Peter presenter made a candid admission.
The 37-year-old has confessed that the response to On The Farm from viewers has been “overwhelming”.
Helen, who also fronts Countryfile, revealed that it was with the viewers who helped to keep the Channel 5 show on-air.
She explained that the network initially had plans to only commission a few episodes of On The Farm.
Helen said: “I’m really surprised with the connection that people have.
“That’s the only reason we are on-air is because of the reaction. Channel 5 commissioned it and said let’s do a few shows but people kept watching, so they’re like do a few more.
She continued: “I think the show has come along at a time when people want a bit of feel good.
“They want a bit of a reminder that the world is still turning. It’s escapism. It’s humbling, a bit of fun and a bit tongue and cheek. It’s also a bit naughty at times.
“So I’m blown over by the response.”
Speaking about the reaction from viewers, Helen commented: “It’s so overwhelming.
“I started on radio in 2005 and the reaction to On The Farm is just surreal.”
The TV star also revealed the response the Channel 5 show received from none other than Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
It comes as On The Farm has continued to film during the coronavirus pandemic, keeping families up and down the country entertained.

She explained how Rob and Dave received a letter from the Conservative Party leader, as she recalled how they all took the “p***”.
Helen admitted she was unaware of how much the show had meant to the public, until witnessing candid moments with her co-stars.
She said: “I’ve been at the farm in the summer when we’re not filming with my kids in the playground.
“And you hear people, grown-ups going, ‘Let’s go and see Emma.’ I didn’t get it until I heard it.”
She continued: “When the Prime Minister sent Rob and Dave a letter to say ‘thank you’ for helping keep the nation’s spirits up, we all took the p*** a bit, but I get it.
“People this year have really struggled. Our generation has been through the unimaginable.”
Springtime On The Farm has aired throughout much of the pandemic.
