On Friday, August 19, Doja took to Twitter to ask Rolling Ray to check his DM. While the content of her message remains unknown, it seems like Rolling Ray is satisfied with whatever it is. He responded to Doja’s tweet, “Purr Now this giving what’s supposed to be gave.”
Doja Cat settled the stealing phrase controversy privately.
Fans were happy for Rolling Ray. “although it took an army of lashings… sounds more like damage control but we’ll take it,” a fan replied to Rolling Ray. “better be a lovely lookin percentage fr,” someone else added, with another person noting, “getttt moneyyy biiii***hh.”
Doja received backlash after she announced her new website and brand named “It’s Giving” on Thursday. In a video that she shared on Twitter, the “Say So” singer could be heard saying, “It was supposed to give but it did not give what needed to be gave to the highest of giving.” It was also revealed that she and her team filed for the trademark last year.
Upon catching wind of the post, Rolling Ray believed that Doja stole his signature phrase that went viral back in 2019. Criticizing Popeye’s Chicken Sandwich, he said in a video at the time, “It’s not even giving what y’all said it was supposed to gave, no, I wasted my money! So, send me my money back, now!”
Calling out Doja, Rolling Ray accused her of taking his viral phrase without even giving him a proper credit. “This b***h said let me steal from this handicap black b***h & copy righted my saying uh whole year ago !!” he ranted while quote-retweeting Doja’s new video. “Lord I’m tired of fighting.”
The whole thing earned mixed responses from Internet users. Some people agreed that Doja should have credited Rolling Ray with one saying, “Y’all can say Rolling Ray should’ve trademarked it first all you want but what happened to decency…. Doja’s rich and keeps making money off people who barely have s**t. It’s not that hard to give at least a small a** percentage or acknowledgment.”
Some others, meanwhile, defended the star. “I promise you Doja was not thinking about Rolling Ray when founding her clothing line. Please be so serious,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
