Dan Walker grills Dominic Raab about his holiday

Dan Walker was one of many BBC stars welcoming a new addition to breakfast news this week. The broadcaster announced Rick Edwards will be taking over Nicky Campbell on BBC Radio 5 Live.

Nicky usually hosts the breakfast news show with Rachel Burden on the station.

However, the BBC confirmed he will instead be taking on a new spot later in the morning from November.

In a tweet on September 1 the station wrote: “We’ve got some exciting news…

“Rick Edwards will take over from Nicky Campbell as the new 5 Live Breakfast presenter alongside Rachel Burden from November.

“Congratulations @RickEdwards1.”

Dan was one of the first stars to react to the news online.

Replying to the tweet, Dan wrote: “Congratulations @rickedwards1.

“Welcome to the wide awake club.”

Rick was quick to thank the BBC Breakfast host, writing back on social media.

He penned in view of his 239,000 followers: “Thanks Dan.

“I have my eyelid matchsticks at the ready!”

Dan wasn’t the only one to send their well wishes to the presenter.

Naga Munchetty wrote: “Congratulations! X.”

Nicky also congratulated him, writing: “Congratulations to Rick.

“He’s a brilliant broadcaster. Him and @rachelburden gonna be fab.”

His co-star Rachel penned: “The king is moving to a slightly later slot, long live the king.”

Speaking about his new role, Rick said: “I realise I have some big boots to fill…

“But I’m very excited about popping them on and sitting alongside the brilliant Rachel every morning.”

On Twitter, he penned about the news: “THIS. IS. EXCITING!”

“Hold on, I have to get up WHEN,” Rick then joked.
