HBO released the first official trailer for its documentary on Tina Turner on Tuesday (February 23).

The documentary, Tina, which tells the story of Turner’s childhood, her rise to stardom and her career spanning several decades, is set to be released on March 27, on HBO and HBO Max.

“My mother used to sit in the window of the kitchen when she was making dinner on Sundays. I used to just watch her. She was just so pretty,” Tina says in the trailer, which features several clips from her career. “One day, she wasn’t in that window. She was never in it again.”

“I wanted her to come for me. I waited and she never did. And it’s alright — you know why?” she adds. “I’m a girl from a cotton field that pulled myself above the destruction and the mistakes. And I’m here for you.”

The documentary, directed by Dan Lindsay, T.J. Martin and Lightbox, provides a “revealing and intimate look at the life and career” of Turner, according to the official synopsis.

It features several interviews with Tina in her home in Zurich, Switzerland, and contains new footage, audio tapes and photos. Angela Bassett, Oprah Winfrey, and several other celebrities who are close to Tina have given interviews for the film.
