‘We need to appreciate the new normal’: Pansexual Bachelorette star Angie Kent questions why Brooke Blurton’s season has had woeful ratings despite featuring both male and female suitors

Angie Kent is baffled by the poor ratings performance of the new season of The Bachelorette.

The show features male and female contestants vying for Brooke Blurton’s heart in a world first.

But it has not resonated with viewers – and former Bachelorette Angie, who recently came out as pansexual, cannot understand why.

‘The queer world is magical… the first episode gave me all the feels,’ she told Yahoo on Friday.

‘And our first kiss being a queer pash – SO MUCH YES! So why are we not rating? Ratings are in and they were morbid.

‘Are we exhausted by the franchise? Are we out and about having our own version of a queer because most of us are out of lockdown now?’ she asked.

What a flop:  Ratings for The Bachelorette have gone from bad to worse. After a disastrous premiere on Wednesday night, the second episode has become the lowed rated in the history of the dating franchise

The Bachelorette was beaten in the TV ratings by Home and Away, Seven’s The Chase Australia and Nine’s gaming and reality shows including RBT, Hot Seat and Paramedics.

It was easily outnumbered by 10’s other primetime program Gogglebox, which notched almost double The Bachelorette’s figures with 596,000 viewers.

The Project also beat the reality dating program, but also had a paltry audience of 394,000.

Oh dear: The show drew in a dire 345,000 viewers – 52,000 less than the opener

The only saving grace for The Bachelorette was that it managed to place second in the 16-39 key demographic and fourth in the 18-49 category.

Results taken from the key demographics imply that the program is being watched by younger viewers.

Channel 10 took in a low audience share of 13.7% and 20.4% for the network for Thursday.

It comes as the station revealed in their upfronts earlier this week that both The Bachelorette and The Bachelor would be renewed for 2022.

That’s despite both programs recording their worst TV ratings of all time in their respective seasons this year.

Daily Mail Australia has reached out to the 10 Network for comment.
