Ashley Graham is reflecting on THAT awkward red carpet moment with Hugh Grant.
The model and host may have an “upbeat” nature for every occasion, but sometimes even the most charming interviewee has a “grumpy” day. If you watched the Oscars pre-show this year, you probably remember that being the case when the mother of two attempted to get the Love Actually star to crack a smile — and was left out to dry!
As a refresher, Graham, who was tapped to help co-host the star-studded carpet for the 95th annual Academy Awards, attempted to create the most positive and exciting environment for Hollywood’s finest as they headed into the ceremony. But like we said, Grant wasn’t so quick to budge. From the get-go, he referenced William Thackeray‘s 1848 novel, Vanity Fair, which Ashley misinterpreted as the after party that the outlet of the same name hosts every year, which seemingly annoyed the 62-year-old.
She tried to move on, asking him who he was rooting for at the awards show, to which he swiftly responded:
“No one in particular.”
Well that’s fine. Fair enough, we guess!
So she pushed forward, asking him about his wardrobe, and specifically “who” he was wearing… and he gave nothing, AGAIN. He responded:
“Just my suit.”
He went on to claim he couldn’t “remember” his tailor. Again, okay, fair enough.
But then it became SUPER CLEAR he wasn’t in the mood for a red carpet interview when he continued his short responses, promptly striking down any opportunity for excitement over his brief role in the 2022’s Glass Onion.

Now, the 35-year-old is circling back to the awkward moment.
During an interview with The Sunday Times over the weekend, the model recalled thinking he just must not have even wanted to be present at an awards pre-show. She dished:
“I could tell he didn’t want to be there, that was obvious. Before, we were chatting, he was very pleasant. Then we started rolling and he was like, ‘I don’t want to be here,’ and I was, ‘OK, work with me! I get it! But like, work with me?’”
Spoiler alert: he didn’t.
“I was trying my hardest to be my nice, upbeat self and he gave me what he had. I didn’t get the Vanity Fair comment. My public school system didn’t have that book, probably. It’s crazy how viral it went.”
The Times interviewer then suggested, “everyone has a grumpy Hugh in their family,” to which Ashley admitted she was not expecting from the “charming” actor:
“I just remembered him from Love Actually where he was charming!”
This isn’t the first time the host addressed the viral moment, as she told TMZ cameras in March:
“You know what? My momma told me to kill people with kindness, so there you go.”
The high road looks good on her! Hugh should maybe take a lesson, LOLz!
Of course, we don’t think this moment means he’s grumpy all the time, but when you’re agreeing to get on a red carpet and do some interviews, well…
