Alison Hammond deserves to win the Best Presenter gong at the National Television Awards – according to This Morning co-star Gok Wan.

Former Big Brother contestant Alison has previously told how scooping the award would “mean a lot” to her. But she is up against I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! hosts Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly – who have won it for the past 20 years.

Now, Gok Wan has said that his This Morning co-star is a one of a kind and would be a worthy recipient of the Best Presenter award at Thursday (October 13) night’s NTA’s ceremony.

Speaking to The Mirror about who could win the gong, he said: "I absolutely adore Alison, she's a really good friend of mine, we work together, we always have lots and lots of fun.

"She's no different from what you see on screen, she's absolutely amazing, I think she's a very deserving winner but equally, so are Ant and Dec."

He added: "Alison, there is nobody else like her, they definitely broke the mould with her and I'm so glad they did because she is such a gift for us all."

Fashion expert Gok regularly appears on This Morning – if not offering style tips then giving culinary advice in his popular cooking segment. The show has found itself at the centre of a media storm of late over accusations that hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield jumped the queue to see the late Queen lying in state – with sources saying the atmosphere backstage was "awful".

But Gok said the atmosphere on set is very much dependent on the individual's mindset.

He added: "More often than not, it's fine, a lot of it is down to how relaxed you are on screen.

“If you've not had enough sleep, or you're a bit tired or a bit stressed out, you need to focus slightly more.

“There's a responsibility that comes with live TV as it's entertainment and you've got to be technically different to where you are if you're pre-recording."

Gok was speaking to The Mirror as part of Bupa's This Is Health campaign. Also a DJ, he has teamed up with the private healthcare provider to launch a feel-good playlist on his Spotify containing a mix of the nation's top 20 songs that provide the inspiration for their daily health and wellness goals. He is also encouraging people to add their own inspiring tunes to the playlist.

He said: "I'm a massive, massive music lover. A campaign like this, to me, is massively important because I know the power of music and what it can do for our mental health or for our physical health as well.

"This is the greatest gift that we can all give each other at the moment to relieve stress and make each other happy and share something which is very, very personal to us."
