While there is so much to admire about former First Lady Michelle Obama–her intelligence, strength, resilience, style (hello, 2021 inauguration outfit)–we have to have a moment for her seemingly frozen-in-time glow. If you’ve ever seen a beaming picture of her and asked yourself, just how does she do it?, then lucky you: We have the inside scoop for you about how to get skin like hers.

Although Michelle herself hasn’t spilled the beans about her skincare routine, she has a facialist, Jennifer Brodeur (who has also worked with Oprah, NBD), who has really done us all a solid for revealing her fave products. Jennifer supports Mrs. Obama’s skin by suggesting and concocting the perfect products for anti-aging and improving skin tone, on top of the former First Lady’s practices of eating healthy, regular movement, and choosing to prioritize herself.

“What was beautiful about the first meeting was that she was a true believer of not just a healthy lifestyle and self-care and self-love, but also being as natural as possible and aging gracefully.” Jennifer told Refinery 29.If you’ve been wondering what Michelle never leaves the house without, what she has to have in her airplane carry-on, and what she can’t start a day without, keep reading and you too can get that brilliant Michelle glow.

It’s all about the vitamins.

“We started with an anti-inflammatory system and then it was about integrating more vitamin Cs and then vitamin A in the evening.” Jennifer told Refinery 29. Vitamin C serum is known to seriously benefit your skin, especially if you’re looking for more of a glow. It evens your skin tone and stimulates the production of collagen.

To get Michelle ready for a speaking engagement, she treats her to a collagen-based vitamin C facial. “I use a gel-based collagen in which I’ll infuse vitamin C and then I’ll use oxygen to make sure the skin absorbs as much as possible.” said Jennifer. Since she doesn’t mention a specific vitamin C product, check out WH’s list of vitamin C serums.

She takes a collagen supplement.

“The one thing I always make sure we have on hand is withinUs — it’s a collagen supplement that’s vital for flying. It has great electrolytes and hydrates from within.” Jennifer told Refinery 29.Along with this collagen supplement, she also recommends flying without any makeup on.

She uses Jennifer Brodeur’s Peoni line.

Being the skincare wizard that she is, Jennifer Brodeur of course created her own skincare line perfectly suited for her clients. Although Jennifer literally mixes personalized potions for her clients, her Peoni line is specially formulated to replenish and hydrate. And Michelle cannot go without it—specifically the Peoni L’extrait oil. It is especially necessary when traveling to keep up the glow despite the jet lag and long hours on the plane. “It’s an anti-inflammatory and makes sure the skin stays very hydrated. She can even use it on her cuticles,” the facialist told Refinery 29.

If you’re looking to dive into ultimate self care and have a pretty penny to spend on yourself, Jennifer would suggest the Peoni line, including an essence, serum, cleanser, and moisturizer.

She gets a little help from concealer.

Despite how perfect we believe Michelle to be, she does have a secret to her flawless complexion—just like we all do. And it’s concealer.

Carl Ray, Michelle’s longtime makeup artist, told Elle that she uses NARS Creamy Concealer. (At least there is one thing I already have in common with Michelle!) And you can bet she used it for Michelle’s iconic 2021 inauguration look.

She prioritizes herself and embraces her beauty.

“She learned from a very young age that she needed to put herself first. The whole gesture of cleansing your skin and applying your serums and creams, all of those things you can do for yourself and it’s the best display of self-love — it’s not vanity.” Jennifer told Refinery 29. Taking care of your skin is just one step in a commitment to yourself. The real secret to getting that glow is believing you have it.

“If there’s one thing [Mrs. Obama] taught me from the first day I met her was, It’s OK to stand up tall. When you’re around her, you want to stand taller. That’s the grace that she exudes. It’s about being your best self. I’m so proud that I’m on this journey with her, especially because she’s showing us there’s no age limit on becoming who you want to be.”
