THE BEST hidden gem restaurants in the world have been revealed – and Doncaster surprisingly features on the list.

TripAdvisor's Travellers' Choice Awards has rounded up the finest dining across the globe.



This includes the best restaurants in the UK and the best in the world by looking at the quantity and quality of reviews and ratings.

The newest subcategory is the best Hidden Gem restaurants around the world, which are off the beaten track and loved by locals.

Featuring restaurants in Spain, Italy and Mexico, a restaurant in Doncaster surprisingly made the list.

La Fiesta, a Spanish restaurant, was fifth on the list and was rated highly for its all-you-can-eat tapas.

One person said: The best Spanish tapas we have had outside of Spain. The menu is of an excellent variety and the quality of the food is excellent.”

Another said: "This is the best meal out that we've had as a family for a number of years.

Many also raved about the buy-one-get-one-free Sangria too.

Lauren Murphy, Vice President, GM of Hospitality Solutions at Tripadvisor said: "Like searching through a big menu for the perfect meal, recommendations can be helpful in decision making, and our community’s guidance makes choosing from the wide array of restaurants easier. 

"Tripadvisor’s Travellers’ Choice Awards, decided by people who visited and reviewed these places in the past year, offers authentic recommendations for the best places to eat no matter the occasion."

Other highly ranked restaurants included the Salamander Restaurant in Mevagissey, Cornwall, which was the top date night restaurant in the UK, and Makars Gourmet Mash Bar in Edinburgh as the best for everyday eats.

For the best fine dining in Europe, the UK takes the top spot with The Old Stamp House Restaurant in Cumbria.
