JERSEY is a popular tourist destination which is not too far from the UK.

People may be aware of the relationship between the Channel Islands and the Crown, but there are some points you will need to know if you are planning a vacation there.

Where is Jersey located?

Jersey is located amongst the channel islands, which are between England and France.

It is 85 miles from the South Coast of England and 15 miles from the French coast.

Is Jersey a part of the UK?

No it isn't, however the UK is the sovereign state responsible for the territory.

Jersey has a separate relationship to the Crown from the other Crown dependencies of Guernsey and the Isle of Man, although all are held by the monarchy.

The island has three official languages, which are permitted by the island's government. These are English, French and Norman.

Jersey was part of the Duchy of Normandy, whose dukes became Kings of England from 1066.

After Normandy was lost by the Kings of England in the 13th century, and the ducal title surrendered to France, Jersey remained loyal to the monarchy, although they never became part of the Kingdom of England.

Do I need a passport to go to Jersey?

There are no formal immigration controls when travelling within the Common Travel Area.

You don't need to carry your passport or identity card for immigration purposes; however, customs and immigration officers may ask to see your photo ID and evidence of your UK immigration permissions.

How long is the flight to Jersey?

It is dependant on where you are flying from.

From London, it takes about an hour to fly to Jersey, whilst from Manchester, it takes around an hour and 20 minutes.

What is the currency in Jersey?

The currency of Jersey is the Jersey pound.

It is not a different currency to the UK pound, both Jersey and Bank of England notes are legal tender on the island.

However, Jersey notes are not legal tender in the UK, but can exchanged at par with Bank of England notes.
