In response to Amazon Prime Day, which is currently underway, leak-proof underwear brand WUKA is holding a sale to rival the online retail giant.
The creator of UK’s first ever period pants is set to hold its second Sublime Day sale event of 2022 on the between October 11 and 12, offering an ‘ethical and sustainable alternative’ to shopping on Amazon.
The aim is to encourage people to shop local and invest in independent business, purchasing considered products that are better for the planet and the workers who manufacture them.
It’s also hoped that more people will make the jump from single-use period products to reusable methods, with each pair of WUKA underwear replacing up to 100 menstrual disposables.

A set of five Period Pants will last you up to two years, reducing your carbon footprint by five times – to date, WUKA customers have prevented an estimated 3,500 tonnes of CO2 from being emitted, which is the equivalent of planting 60,000 trees.
Period pants could help keep costs down too. According to research by the manufacturer, you could save up to 47% by switching from the most popular tampon brand in the UK, or up to 35% from the most popular pad brand in the UK, to WUKA Basics Period Pants Range.
Given The Grocer found that, throughout 2022, own-label tampons and pads have risen by up to 57%, it makes sense from a financial perspective not to flush your money away (quite literally, sometimes) on throwaway menstrual products.
WUKA, meanwhile, has kept its prices the same throughout the cost of living crisis, with some items even being reduced. During Sublime Day, a pair will set you back from £10 – and every customer gets a freebie to celebrate.
With any purchase from October 11-12, you’ll get a free pair of WUKA Basics Medium Flow underwear, normally priced at £12.
Ruby Raut, CEO and Co-founder of WUKA said: ‘We’ve all become accustomed to shopping online during the pandemic but the hidden cost to the planet and the people who work for those big businesses has been hidden from consumers.
‘Sublime Day is about helping consumers find independent brands that are doing the right thing for their employees, the planet and their customers. I welcome other independent ethical and sustainable UK brands to reach out to us for the next Sublime Day and join us in celebrating our independence.’
