Inside Kim Kardashian’s ‘fallout’ with Anna Wintour – after the Vogue editor took a ‘tasteless’ dig against reality star and ‘snubbed’ her at Paris Fashion Week

Anna Wintour left fans cringing as they witnessed what appeared to be a stony ‘snub’ at Kim Kardashian during a Paris Fashion Week runway on Friday.

The Vogue Editor-in-Chief, 73, seemed to visibly cold-shoulder the reality star, 42, as she arrived at Victoria Beckham’s 2024 Spring/Summer show in a glamorous pastel pink gown.

But while many were left wincing at the awkward encounter, it’s not the first time rumours of tensions have surfaced between the fashion powerhouse and SKIMS founder.

Here FEMAIL takes a look at the alleged strains the duo have endured in their working relationship, which looks to have began in 2013 after Kanye West reportedly ‘begged’ Anna to put his then-fiancée on the iconic magazine’s cover.

Kim has since graced the cover of American Vogue three times – and has also featured on its international editions.

She has also attended the publication’s ever-revered Met Gala – which Anna organises – every year since making her debut at the event ten years ago.

The pair have even posed for a selfie together, with the Vogue editor, who’s been dubbed Nuclear Wintour, flashing a rare smile for the camera.

But a history of subtle ‘shade’ thrown by Anna as well as controversies surrounding Kim’s ex-husband Ye – who is famously instrumental in her origins in the fashion world – swirls in the background.

FASHION WEEK ‘SNUBS’

Fans are convinced that Anna Wintour snubbed Kim Kardashian during Victoria Beckham’s 2024 Spring/Summer fashion show during Paris Fashion Week on Friday.

In a video, the reality star arrived and sat down next to the editor-in-chief of Vogue, who looked like she deliberately moved seats to avoid Kim.

However it has been confirmed that Anna and Kim did sit side-by-side for the entire show.

Fans believed Anna’s body language indicated that she was intently ignoring the SKIMS founder after she arrived late to the star-studded show.

Anna, who was flanked by both Kim and David Beckham, was thought to have got up and moved away from Kim, by the looks of a video where Anna was nowhere in sight.

In the clip Kim was spotted chatting to former footballer David and seemingly mouthed: ‘I feel so bad.’

Due to the video, fans speculated that Anna had snubbed the Disney star and took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to joke that it looks like Kim won’t be getting an invite to the iconic Met Gala next year.

One wrote: ‘Anna didn’t even look at her and then she moved seats?’

Another said: ‘Anna’s body language.’

‘Oh Kimberly better fix that connection with Anna,’ penned a third.

Another added: ‘Oh Kim isn’t getting that Met Gala invite back.’

Page Six have since confirmed that the pair were seated next to each other for the whole show, and were photographed talking before Anna made her exit.

It is not the first time that Kim appeared to face the ultimate fashion putdown when she was seemingly snubbed by Anna while attending the Fendi Spring 2023 show in New York City last year.

The apparent rebuff took place after the event’s finale, when Kim seemingly went to say hi to Anna – who is well known for her famously-icy demeanor – however, the magazine editor instead went to greet Sarah Jessica Parker, who was standing next to the reality star, in what many have interpreted as a clear snub.

Video of the moment was shared on TikTok, where it quickly went viral, with hundreds of users sharing their take on the awkward interaction.

THROWING SHADE AT NON-‘TASTEFUL’ KIMYE COVER

In 2014, Anna defended her heavily criticised decision to put Kim and Ye on the April cover of Vogue – but despite her compliments for the former couple, she appeared to suggest that the choice was ‘tasteless’.

According to Fashionista, the magazine editor said at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York: ‘I think if we just remain deeply tasteful and just put deeply tasteful people on the cover, it would be a rather boring magazine!’

She added that even from the very beginning, Vogue was never about pleasing everyone.

‘The first celebrity that I put on the cover of Vogue was Madonna, and that was considered completely controversial at the time too,’ the editor explained.

Anna went on to say that if Vogue didn’t reflect modern culture – even the more provocative figures within it – ‘nobody would talk about us’

‘It’s such a long time ago probably no one remembers, but she was a very controversial figure. Now she’s part of the establishment.’

Anna went on to say that if Vogue didn’t reflect modern culture – even the more provocative figures within it – ‘nobody would talk about us. It’s very important that people do talk about us’.

Indeed, despite implying that they are not ‘tasteful’, it appears the editor had nothing but love for the Kardashian family, even making a point to praise Kendall Jenner in her new role as the face of Estee Lauder.

‘What a fantastic decision that was! They have a wonderful brand that’s very traditionally American, and they decided they want to shake it up and reach a different audience. Now and again one has to do things like that,’ she said.

FULL OF PRAISE FOR KENDALL… WITH A SUBTLE DIG AT KIM’S MODESTY

While Anna and Kim have enjoyed a public friendship, it would appear that the fashion icon has always had a soft spot for her sister Kendall Jenner.

She has been full of praise for the model, 27 – and in a stark contrast to scenes between Kim and Anna at Paris Fashion Week on Friday, Anna and the supermodel were seen giggling together at Milan Fashion Week last month.

One interview from 2019 even sees the fashion mogul compliment the eldest Kar-Jenner daughter while seemingly throwing shade at Kim’s past fashion choices.

The Vogue editor sat down for the publication’s videos entitled Go Ask Anna where readers on the street can ask the style guru any question on their minds.

A fan asked Anna her thoughts on the Kardashian family’s style. She responded: ‘You have to admire how they have created an empire obviously through their personalities and the creative genius of their mother.’

During the video interview, she admitted the person Vogue has worked with the most from the high-profiled family was Kendall.

The supermodel started in modeling at the young age of 14 and has since appeared on many Vogue covers and pages.

‘People thought that she wouldn’t last, and I give [Kendall] a lot of credit for persevering in her highly successful modeling career,’ Anna said.

‘She’s very open and very direct in the way that she talks about how she just wants to be a model, that she enjoys being a model, that she has worked hard at it… and I hope that she continues.’

‘Kim, of all of them, I feel has possibly changed the most,’ Anna added.

‘I personally admire the way she’s become a little bit more minimal in the way that she’s dressing and a little bit more covered.’

RUMOURS OF MET GALA ‘BAN’ FOR KIM AND HER FAMILY

For the past decade, Kim has been a regular sighting at the Met Gala – despite previous reports that she and her family were cut from the exclusive soiree by Vogue’s legendary editor-in-chief.

Earlier this year, Page Six sparked viral speculation that the event was going ‘Kardashian-free’ because Wintour was allegedly ‘cracking down on the guest list’ for 2023.

Kim made her Met Gala debut in 2013 with then-husband Ye, ending an awkward period for the reality star, as she had famously never made the cut when it came to Wintour’s cutthroat guest list.

Anna’s alleged new selectiveness came after the event had been criticised in recent years for inviting a lower tier of celebrities, including some influencers.

Kim has attended eight Met Galas over the years since her 2013 debut, and last year was a major moment for her family as the Kar-Jenner clan dominated the affair.

Kim’s first Met Gala appearance with Kanye in 2013 was savaged on social media, with many users comparing her jubilant floral dress to an old-school sofa pattern.

But the fashion icon didn’t let that unfortunate misstep deter her, as she has returned every year since, nailing a succession of show-stopping looks.

Kim boasted the ‘first design in 20 years’ from the late fashion legend Thierry Mugler when she arrived at the 2019 ceremony in a shimmering flesh-colored dress that hugged her curves and featured dangling crystals that looked like rain drops.

After skipping 2020 when the event was canceled due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, she returned in 2021 with her edgiest look to date: an all-black Balenciaga bodysuit with a long train and a black mask that covered her entire head.

The bondage-style look was a far cry from the more traditional glamour she showed off at last year’s ceremony when she wore the dress that Marilyn Monroe famously had on when she sang Happy Birthday to President John F. Kennedy.

CUTTING TIES WITH KANYE

Last year, Vogue announced that it will no longer work with Ye following a series of controversies surrounding the 46-year-old rapper – who is understood to have been a key player in Kim’s working relationship with the outlet.

A spokesman for the fashion magazine told Page Six that Vogue and its editor-in-chief Anna Wintour have no intention of working with the Gold Digger rapper in the future.

They cited West’s anti-Semitic rants as well as his support for the controversial White Lives Matter movement as principle reasons why they’ve decided to distance themselves.

Anna has had a long relationship with Ye, first inviting him to the Met Gala back in 2009. She was pictured last month modeling sunglasses for West’s Yeezy brand.

However, the fashion icon has also gone on the record to silence claims that Ye was singlehandedly pushing to get Kim on the cover of Vogue.

In her April 2014 Editor’s Letter for Vogue’s Shape Issue, she wrote: ‘You may have read that Kanye begged me to put his fiancée on Vogue’s cover.

‘He did nothing of the sort. The gossip might make better reading, but the simple fact of the matter is that it isn’t true.’

On the cover, which Anna described as being ‘both charming and touching,’ Kim wore a strapless Lanvin wedding gown with her ex-fiancé standing behind her, his arms wrapped around her waist.

She went on to applaud Kim’s ‘strength of character’, writing: ‘There’s barely a strand of the modern media that the Kardashian Wests haven’t been able to master, and for good reason.

‘Kanye is an amazing performer and cultural provocateur, while Kim, through her strength of character, has created a place for herself in the glare of the world’s spotlight, and it takes real guts to do that.’

Anna, who has been editing the magazine since 1988, also said that a long held tradition of Vogue is ‘being able to feature those who define the culture at any given moment, who stir things up, whose presence in the world shapes the way it looks and influences the way we see it’.

‘I think we can all agree on the fact that that role is currently being played by Kim and Kanye to a T,’ she penned. ‘(Or perhaps that should be to a K?)’
