Be honest, how many hand bags, totes, small backpack, bum bag have you got in your airport carry-on?
For some reason, we seem to lose all decorum when it comes to packing for holiday (27 pairs of underwear for a week’s trip, anyone?), but fashion guru Tan France has some hard truths for you to hear.
No, you don’t need all those bags in your carry-on. Yes, a beach bag and a tote can be lifesavers to carry all your goods while you strut around on holiday, but think of all the space you’ll be saving.
The Queer Eye star shared how packing your carry-on luggage with lots of bags just takes up valuable space that you could be using to pack show-stopping outfits.
France told Insider he only brings a carry-on when he’s traveling around Europe, and that it’s bizarre when people take lots of small bags on vacation.
He said: ‘I have a very close friend who will take little handbags — like clutch bags and slightly larger bags — in their hand luggage, and then just pack a couple of dresses or whatever. I think that’s a really bizarre thing to pack.’
So what should you pack?
He says take one small bag that goes with everything. ‘Make it a black one or a white one, and use that extra space for all the other stuff you might want.
‘I don’t think I would ever give real estate to a bunch of different bags. No one really cares that you’re wearing the same bag every day, as opposed to the same full outfit every day.’
Other packing advice for carry-ons includes not having any outerwear in it, such as jumpers, as you’re better off just wearing it or putting it in the main luggage.

And as for shoes, always wear your heaviest.
He added: ‘I wear a boot when I’m traveling because that’s a heavier, chunkier option that’s going to fill up my suitcase. So I pack a pair of sneakers because, when you’re walking around Europe, you’re going to need comfortable shoes.
‘We don’t use public transport anywhere near as much as we do in the US. So take some great comfortable sneakers that you’ve worn a thousand times.’
Things to remember on your next vacay.
