Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have seemingly dug themselves into a hole with the royal family. Harry is said to have caused a large rift between himself and his older brother Prince William, as well as their father Prince Charles. Page Six reports that tensions began to rise when Harry and Meghan announced their plans to split their household from that of William and his wife Kate Middleton by moving out of Kensington Palace in 2018. In May 2019, the royals made headlines again when William and Kate took eight hours to release a statement about the birth of Harry and Meghan’s first child, son Archie.
By October 2019, Prince Harry spoke out about the rumored rift between him and William during an ITV documentary. “We don’t see each other as much as we used to because we’re so busy, but I love him dearly,” he stated. In early 2020, Meghan and Harry announced that they would be exiting their roles as senior members of the royal family. In March 2021, Harry and Meghan dropped bombshells about the royals during a tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey that was said to cause even more tension (via NPR). The next month, Harry returned home to the U.K. to reunite with his family for the funeral of his grandfather, Prince Philip (via People). Harry was said to be given a frosty greeting following the drama the interview caused, per Cosmopolitan. Now, the family is said to be fed up with the couple’s antics.
Royal family ready to shun Prince Harry and Meghan?
The royal family may turn their backs on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, according to royal expert Russell Myers (via Page Six). The royals are said to be growing tired of the couple’s drama, which includes speaking publicly about the family during their tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey and leaking details about private matters to the media. “The Oprah Winfrey interview, let’s not make any bones about it, went down like a lead balloon. As far as Harry and Meghan are concerned, I think they will be left to sort things out on their own,” Myers told the U.K.’s TalkRadio. “They’ve been a distraction for the most part for the family … There will be quite a lot of dissatisfaction within the camp, and it remains to be seen whether they will be brought back in,” Myers added.
Myers went on to reveal that Harry’s father, Prince Charles, was furious over the interview, and that he’s unwilling to “forgive, forget,” and “heal the rift.” Instead, he and his older son, Prince William, are said to be united when it comes to moving on and getting back to the business of running the royal family while putting Harry, Meghan, and the drama behind them (via Daily Mail). “I don’t think it’s the last straw for the monarchy. I think it’s an evolution rather than a revolution,” Myers revealed, adding that Prince William’s reign will likely bring a “new dawn” to the monarchy.
