When it comes to perfumes, it stands to reason that we typically pick them based on how they smell – after all, that is the whole point of a fragrance, right?
However, when Kate Moss first launched her perfume, Sacred Mist, £125 here, as part of her wellness and beauty brand, COSMOSS, it wasn’t just to make you smell great; it’s ‘wellbeing for the soul and senses’ too.
The perfume was first launched just last month, and now the wellness brand has brought out a travel-sized 30ml bottle of Sacred Mist, £68 here, that’s perfect for both strict travel rules and strict budgets.
The ‘Fragrance for soul, self and space’ was created to act as more than just a perfume. Instead, it helps create a sense of calm, boosts your mood, and even, apparently, cleanses your aura.
Kate herself said: “When I spray this, I feel calmer. I wanted it to be an aura mist that’s cleansing. The base is all kind of magical.”
The Sacred Mist, £68 here, was created by Kate and homeopath and alchemist, Victoria Young, who sourced ingredients that uplift you and increase the perfume's sensory mood-boosting powers to help create emotional balance and a sense of inner peace.
The fragrance’s notes were each chosen not just because they smell good, but because of their wellbeing properties, too.
It has base notes of oak moss (for protection), tonka bean (for good wishes), and cedarwood to complete the powerful base of the scent, with Victoria saying: “Oak moss was a perfect beginning for this scent – it grows around forests and protects the ecology – and part of Kate’s journey, and key to all our wellness, is understanding boundaries and protection.”
Alongside its earthy base notes, Sacred Mist, £68 here, includes jasmine, which brings warmth and optimism, geranium which uplifts and relieves the mind, and tuberose for a feminine and sweet touch.
The scent finishes off with top notes of orange flower for a sunny lift, bergamot for uplifting undertones, and lavender to help relax your mind and body
The final result is a holistic perfume that brings about inner peace, so you can make Sacred Mist, £68 here, a part of your daily ritual, and smell great while you do it.
COSMOSS isn’t the only brand doing holistic, calming perfumes, as The Nue Co. Forest Lungs, £85 here, is an anti-stress fragrance that was formulated as a response to our distance from nature.
The perfume replicated the molecular compounds produced by trees, and its these compounds that are credited with the health benefits that come from spending time in nature and ‘forest bathing’, including balancing stress levels and boosting your resting nervous system.
If there’s one thing we could all do with a little more of, it’s a sense of calm and peace, so if we can get that just from applying our perfume each day then consider us a convert.
