Britney Spears’ father has been ordered to appear in court to face questions relating to the alleged surveillance of his daughter.

A US judge has ruled that Jamie Spears, 70, will be deposed within the next 30 days and must also produce all documents requested by the Gimme More singer’s lawyers.

The orders were made during a hearing in Los Angeles on Wednesday, attended by members of US media.

The court decision comes amid new allegations relating to the controversial conservatorship, which was in place for almost 14 years.

Jamie recently hit back at claims he spied on the singer, now 40, with secret recording devices hidden in her bedroom while it was in place, slamming them as "false".

Speaking outside court following the hearing, the singer’s lawyer Matthew Rosengart told reporters: “Today was a very good day in court for Britney Spears, and it was a very good day for justice.

“Mr Spears as the court determined has now effectively been hiding from his deposition for no less than nine months.

“The day of reckoning for Mr Spears has come… we have seen nothing but obstruction and stone-walling from him.”

He added: “His daughter is finally free. His daughter is married. His daughter is happy. His daughter wants to move on.

“Mr Spears, if he loves his daughter as he professes he does, should leave her alone.”

Jamie's lawyers have attempted to have the pop star, who recently married her partner Sam Asghari, deposed – a move which her own representatives have called "retaliatory".

Britney was freed from the conservatorship, which saw her father control almost every aspect of her life, including her finances and medical decisions, in November last year.

The end of the conservatorship came after huge media scrutiny of the situation, and rare court statements from the star herself.

Britney, who is penning a tell-all book about her life and career, made a number of shocking revelations, including stating that the conservatorship forbid her from coming off birth control and having a much-longed for child.

In April this year, the Toxic singer announced that she was pregnant but tragically miscarried just weeks later.

Britney and Sam's wedding took place at the star's Los Angeles home in June and was attended by stars including Paris Hilton, Drew Barrymore and Donatella Versace, who designed the bride's wedding looks.

Her family – including dad Jamie, mum Lynne and sister Jamie-Lynn – were not present.
