Asda has been named the cheapest supermarket for Christmas – as it has unveiled thrifty deals for vegetables and party food, starting from tomorrow.

The UK retailer was crowned for the cheapest festive basket – which was £154.41, £19.48 cheaper than the average price across featured stores – by food and drink magazine, The Grocer.

And starting from December 19, its customers will be able to save money on last-minute Yuletide shopping essentials – to make sure everything from brussels to Bailey’s is stocked up on.

Shoppers can snag veg for just 19p – including 1kg carrots, 500g sprouts, 360g broccoli and 500g parsnips.

Meanwhile, the brand’s frozen Christmas Dinner is just £4.17 per head, featuring a turkey crown and seven sides.

For more fun finger food options, customers can enjoy the supermarket’s ‘4 for 3’ deal on frozen party food, which ends on January 2, 2024.

This includes 12 Mac ‘n’ Cheese Bites for £2, 12 Vegetable Spring Rolls for £1.50, Tandoori Chicken Thigh Bites for £2.50 and Salt & Pepper Prawns for £2.50.

The ‘3 for 2’ offer on Christmas party food, which is available until January 1, 2024, also features festive treats which are sure to spruce up the party.

Diners will be able to enjoy a selection including the Build Your Own Festive Grazing Cones for £6 and the Build Your Own Festive Antipasti Board for £5.

Also available are the OMV! Vegan 9 Bao Buns Selection for £3.50, 8 Prawn Toast Stars for £3.50, 9 Mini Ham & Cheese Toasties for £3.50 and 10 Halloumi Fries for £3.50.

The Grocer, which earlier this month named Asda the cheapest festive basket, tracked the cost of 33 premium Christmas products, including turkey and all the trimmings, pigs in blankets and mince pies.

It looked at a selection of other outlets – including Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Morrisons and Waitrose.

Asda also offered the lowest price on 19 of the 33 items, such as the smoked salmon slices, mine pies, pigs in blankets, Christmas cake, Baileys and Lanson champagne.

‘This is especially important at Christmas when family budgets are under extra pressure and we are confident that our customers will be able to treat themselves to the best quality festive food and drink without having to break the bank when they shop at Asda.’
