Gardening tips: Four homemade hacks to kill garden weeds
The beauty of stone or brick patios and paving tends to appeal to many homeowners.
However, such patios and pavements can look scruffy rather quickly if weeds are allowed to grow and thrive in between the stone gaps.
When a seed is deposited in the space between the slabs, these warm, wet conditions can cause the seeds to germinate.
Once gardeners have got weeds growing between them, it can be quite difficult to get rid of.
After dealing with weeds in her garden, one woman shared a solution that helped her get rid of them “quickly”.

Taking to the Loving Your Garden Facebook group, Sandra Fields wrote: “I was driven mad by weeds in between my paving slabs.
“My best tip for getting rid of them instantly is instead of weedkiller, pour some boiling water on them. They disappear really quickly.”
Boiling water is an easy way to kill weeds. Pouring boiling water on the weeds will kill them fast as the hot water destroys the plant cells.
The dead weeds will completely fade away over time. Repeated treatments may be necessary for weeds with deep taproots but it will get them too if gardeners are persistent.

Gardeners must remember that boiling water is non-selective, which means that it can kill any other plant it touches.
Group members in the comments section shared their options on this tip. Shirley Dray said: “I’ve been doing that for years. Cheap and eco-friendly.”
Brenda Mills wrote: “Tried everything, last resort was boiling water and it really works and touch wood, weeds haven’t come back.”
Yvonne Lawson said: “Yes, boiled water that’s still hot kills the weeds right off.”
Liz Reid claimed: “A gardener told me to pour on boiling water too – and I can confirm that it works.”
One user also claimed that boiling water works on dandelions too. Hazel Barker commented: “It helped to kill the dandelions that took over my paving.”
