A video from the group claims action is “only just beginning”. Protest organiser Harley McDonald-Eckersall told the Grimbsy Telegraph: “We’re here to demand that McDonald’s switch to plant-based patties by 2025.
“We’re hoping to be here all weekend, we’re stocked up on tents, food and water. Hopefully, we can get them to engage in conversation with us and get the factory shut down.
“We’ve had a couple of people looking confused, but mostly everyone has been understanding in our cause.
“At the minute it’s going really well, but we have to keep going.”
Protesters have set up a campsite in the area.
The factory produces three million burgers a day – and the protest jeopardises other Britons’ chance to eat their favourite fast food.
A police statement says: “Officers from Humberside Police are currently deployed at a food distribution centre on Luneburg Way in Scunthorpe following reports of a demonstration of around 50 people at the entrance to a food distribution centre.
“Officers are in attendance in order to allow people to go about their lawful business and to protect the right of individuals to take part and exercise their right to peaceful protest.
“The roads in and around the industrial estate remain unaffected as the demonstration is at the entrance to one premise.

“We are liaising with representatives from all sides to address concerns.
“We are committed to fulfilling our duty to protect the human rights of all the groups and individuals with an interest in this situation.”
Twitter users responded to the event on the social media platform.
“KFC it is,” one joked.
Another said: “I eat meat every day. I won’t be cutting back I’m afraid.”
“My choice is to eat meat, leave me alone to eat what I want. I don’t complain that you lot want to eat nettles and grass, just bore off,” one said.
One said: “They are going to get lots more business now people think they won’t be able to get a burger.
“I’m going to get my Big Mac now!”
Some were for the action, however. One wrote: “I am all for this protest choice.”
Another said: “Good work.”
