Fried eggs are arguably the quickest and easiest kind to make in a rush, but perfecting the sunny side up consistency isn’t always as easy as it looks.
Luckily for those wanting to recreate restaurant-quality eggs at home, a Dublin-based chef has revealed exactly how to do it.
In a video posted on his TikTok profile @sunnysideupchef, Mustafa Salman gave the public a glimpse of how eggs are cooked in the professional trade.
He said: “I cook over 400 eggs every week as a breakfast chef… here’s how you make the perfect sunny side-up egg.”
Mustafa demonstrated how he uses butter to coat the yolks and whites as they sizzle away.

How to cook sunny side up eggs
The first step is to take a large non-stick pan and fill it a generous helping of both butter and vegetable oil.
Ensure the stove is set to a medium heat and allow the oils to sizzle away until bubbly.
If the heat is too high, the bottom will crisp up before the whites on top cook through.

When the frothy mixture is heated up, crack two eggs directly into the pan on opposite sides to one another.
Mustafa said: “Let it sit for a couple of minutes until the bottom of the eggs start to crisp up. Then lower the heat and baste the whites.”
Basting is very simple – just take a spoon and splash the buttery residue in the pan over the whites of the egg, avoiding the yolk to preserve the runny consistency.
By this point the eggs should come loose and can easily be removed from the pan ready to serve on toasted bread with salt and pepper, as suggested by the chef.
While the method is very simple to follow, Mustafa urged people to follow his expert advice for perfect results every time.
He warned that medium heat is crucial to ensure even cooking of the whites, and that a non-stick pan is ideal, but not essential when using the combination of butter and oil.
