Well, where do you put it?
Heinz has finally given an answer to the age-old debate around whether ketchup needs to be stored in the fridge or not.
Their conclusion: fridge.
On Twitter the brand wrote: ‘FYI: Ketchup. goes. in. the. fridge!!!’
Many were shocked people don’t store it in the fridge though, with one writing: ‘People keep it out of the fridge? *gasp*’.
Heinz ran a study of 2,000 Brits and found that four in ten keep ketchup in the cupboard, not the fridge.
Those in Sheffield are the worst offenders, with almost two thirds going for the cupboard.
Even Cardi B and Victoria Beckham have in the past said they both don’t use the fridge, but now the answer is settled.
Olivia Lennon, at Heinz Tomato Ketchup said: ‘There was only ever one correct answer, and we’re happy to share with Heinz Tomato Ketchup lovers across the UK that our ketchup has to be in the fridge.
‘Although we’re aware many Heinz Tomato Ketchup fans have been storing their ketchup in the cupboard, we do recommend refrigeration after opening.
‘This is the best way to maintain the delicious tangy taste of our Heinz Tomato Ketchup that you know and love.’
You might be wondering why so many opt for the cupboard: Heinz Tomato Ketchup has natural acidity, which makes the ketchup shelf-stable.
However, once open this can be affected by storage conditions – this is why it needs to live in the fridge.
