THIS Thursday (28th January) will bring us the first full moon of 2021.
Known as the Wolf Moon, it will peak in brightness this week, when the moon finds itself directly across from the Sun at a 180-degree angle.
Experts say the Moon will rise above the horizon in the UK just after 4pm before reaching full illumination a minute after 7:15pm.
But what is the meaning behind the Wolf Moon's name and what does it mean for your horoscope? Here’s everything you need to know about the lunar event.
Full moons happen when the Moon is situated on the opposite side of Earth to the Sun, which means its face can be fully illuminated.
This lunar spectacle is also referred to as the Moon After Yule and the Old Moon. Last year, it was spotted in the sky on January 10 and it was also a penumbral lunar eclipse.
Self-described ‘tarot queen’ Kerry King said that full moons are particularly important events in astrology – and they can mean different things depending on which horoscope you are.
How did the Wolf Moon get its name?
According to Kerry, The Wolf Moon was named by native americans – as are all Full Moons in the annual calendar.
It was named because of the howling wolves that prowled outside their villages in the winter months.
Wolves howl to communicate with each other, be it a warning or a signal to guide other wolves to a location or prey.
What happens during a Full Moon?
Kerry, who uses her tarot and star sign wisdom to create inspiring forecasts and insights, insists Full Moons are very important.
She said: ‘The few days before, during and after a Full Moon, represents a great time to bring things to fruition in your life.
‘You can also draw conclusions, tie up loose ends, celebrate successes and generally release projects and relationships that have run their course and come to an end.
‘It is a time to acknowledge and let go, clearing the decks ready for the sparkling and fresh ~new beginnings~ energy of the new moon (two weeks later).
‘You basically get two weeks to sort yourself out and finish stuff before you need to initiate anything new!’
Kerry, who offers personal written readings online, revealed that this Wolf Moon is in the sign of Leo, and occurring in the astrological sun sign season of Aquarius.
List of 12 star signs

- Capricorn: December 22 – January 20
- Aquarius: January 21 – February 18
- Pisces: February 19 – March 20
- Aries: March 21 – April 20
- Taurus: April 21 – May 21
- Gemini: May 22 – June 21

- Virgo: August 24 – September 22
- Libra: September 23 – October 23
- Scorpio: October 24 – November 22
- Sagittarius: November 23 – December 21
How can the Wolf Moon make you feel?
Kerry says that this combination means that you may feel emotional about who you are to others and the role you play in any teams or wider groups.
The ~love to be loved~ energy of Leo is at odds with the ~just give me space to be me~ energy of Aquarius.
Kerry said this could mean that you feel tension in your romances, friendships, family ties and work relationships.
‘We all ~need to be needed~, to a degree, but that reliance can be cloying and constricting. We need to find a balance,’ she says.
What does the Wolf Moon mean for your horoscope?
The tarot queen has compiled a Wolf Moon Tarot Forecast for 2021 to examine which relationships in your life most need review and attention this week.
She explained: ‘Perhaps one where the balance between pleasing them vs pleasing yourself is ~off~ and, with some adjustment, can be brought back to a more harmonious energy.
‘You’ve got two to address this, and fix it (or maybe walk away). So, don’t procrastinate.’
ARIES – THE HANGED MAN
You’ve hit a limbo phase in a relationship you had much bigger hopes for, and it’s frustrating. All of your efforts have fallen on fallow ground, nothing has taken root.
Aries, acknowledge that the timing might be off, and that circumstances have prevented this connection really thriving.
The Hanged Man advises you to simply park it, and return to it when things are different. Don’t write them off just yet.
TAURUS – EIGHT OF COINS
A relationship with someone you’ve known for a very long time has become testing and difficult recently, it has felt like ~hard work~ rather than the easy vibe you’re used to, as revealed by the hardworking Eight of Coins.
They could be a fellow Earth sign (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn). Keep investing your time and energy here, Taurus, because this rough patch will pass by.
Put in some extra effort to find out what’s going on in their life right now – this is likely not triggered by you, but about their own issues.
GEMINI – TWO OF CUPS
Are you being as good a partner or lover as you could be?
Gemini, you can be fickle and cold-hearted at times, pleasing yourself rather than others, and this card is a reminder that relationships are two-way, not a single track.
Spend some quality time with your other half, or object of affection, this week, and be super-supportive and attentive.
They crave your attention, so give it freely and feel how things improve immediately, as promised by the loving Two of Cups.
CANCER – PAGE OF COINS
There’s someone younger in your family who needs your wise counsel and affection, as shown by the Page of Coins.
They are possibly a student, and maybe an Earth sign (Capricorn, Taurus, Virgo), and life is feeling tough for them right now, but they put on a brave face.
You can see beyond the façade, and you have the emotional skill to draw them out and get them to express their fears.
You are a wonderful confidant, and you can make a difference to this young person right now.
LEO – THE EMPEROR
You are trapped in a relationship dynamic someplace in your life that is unhealthy.
The Emperor shows a power play is going on that doesn’t bring out the best in either of you, and is exhausting to keep up with.
You’re either defending yourself, or trying to get the upper hand back, or go on the attack simply to stay in the game.
It’s focussed on a person you find domineering. Stop playing the game, withdraw from this dynamic, distract yourself elsewhere and let this fade. It’s toxic and it’s damaging. Stop.
VIRGO – TEMPERANCE
You’re undergoing a massive change of heart about a long-term relationship or friendship.
You’ve always played the same roles with each other, but Temperance hints you’re both changing and this evolution means your connection to each other will shift too.
That’s okay, it’s normal and natural, and you mustn’t get scared it means things are over or will never be the same.
Maybe, Virgo, they could get even better! Be optimistic, and talk about this.
LIBRA – TWO OF COINS
Your ability to spread yourself thin socially is a modern miracle. Seriously, no other sign has as many friends, acquaintances, open invitations and romantic suitors as a Libra!
That said, does this work for you right now?
The Two of Coins hints that you might need to trim the crowd down a little, and focus more on the people who uplift and inspire you, rather than spending all your energy keeping ALL of the plates spinning. Less can be more right now.
SCORPIO – THE EMPRESS
Refocus on your family and your loved ones, the people you count as your inner circle. The Empress shows that in loving them, you love yourself, and heal and feel better.
The more affection and attention you give to these people, the more it will be amplified and reflected back at you.
Sometimes, you hold yourself apart, you are very private. It can come off as standoffish.
Redress this behaviour, and open up. You are needed and loved, and they’re just waiting for you to show you appreciate it.
SAGITTARIUS – TEN OF SWORDS
There’s a relationship (probably friend or work colleague) that has gone toxic. And we all know that a toxic environment is far more likely to change YOU than you are to change IT.
Time to move on, Sagittarius, seriously it is.
The Ten of Swords takes no prisoners, and comes with a ~cutting~ energy, severing ties and connections, releasing you from negative bonds and chemistry.
Walk away from someone you find it difficult to be around. Do yourself (and them) a favour.
CAPRICORN – SEVEN OF COINS
You and one of your closest people are approaching a crossroads, and both of you are wondering how your relationship will weather or adapt to this change in circumstances.
Some people are with us for a reason, some for a season, and some for a lifetime. Maybe you need to assess which category this connection falls into.
The Seven of Coins is a reminder that just because we’ve known someone for a long time, doesn’t mean we will know them forever more. Learn to adapt, or let go, and be flexible.
AQUARIUS – TEN OF WANDS
Pressure. The Ten of Wands says that there’s too much of it in one of your most intense relationships, and it is bothering you.
It might be coming from them, or you, or both of you, but expectations have gotten misaligned, and you’re both over-egging what the other is (or is NOT) doing.
This needs to stop. It’s not healthy, and it’s making you dislike each other. Get it all out in the open, say how you feel, apologise for what you may have been doing to them as a result.
This can be overcome because it’s behavioural, rather than an emotional fracture. Fix it.
PISCES – FOUR OF COINS
You’ve gotten into a dreaded ~rut~ with someone, like Groundhog Day.
Having the same arguments, conversations, routines, dates or interactions. It is boring, mind-numbing, and you are switching off from them altogether.
Before you flick the ‘off’ switch finally, Pisces, try and reboot.
The Four of Coins shows that if you can shake up your routine and dynamic then things can return to the easy company and happy connection you used to enjoy.
Try and BE different, and see if it sparks a different outcome. Worth a shot!
