Updating a classic sneaker silhouette is nothing new, in fact, 2020 was a year filled with them with styles from Nike, adidas and more all dabbling in the trend. Now firmly in 2021, Reebok has added its two cents with its new offering: the Club C Legacy.
The Club C is a retro model born in 1985 and is a tennis icon that lives on to this day. Despite all of the sneaker industry’s technology and boundary-pushing designs, the Reebok Club C has barely changed or seen much in the way of development since its launch 36 years ago, because why fix something if it isn’t broken?
For the Club C Legacy, this idea of “why fix it?” has been clearly kept in mind. While it does sport a few contemporary touches and the overall design seems more modernized, it is quintessentially a Club C — just with a few bells and whistles that’ll make it appealing to both OG sneakerheads and the newer generation of wearers.
Offered in two white-based colorways, the Club C Legacy sports an upper comprising leather with overlays of suede on the toe, heel, and eyestay placket. This is joined by a collar made from ripstop nylon, which acts as the foundations for a patch of leather-based Reebok branding forming the heel tab.
Elsewhere, elements such as the foremost eyelet are pronounced and three dimensional, while the traditional Reebok side-panel branding also appears on a leather tab stitched onto the upper. Furthermore, zigzag stitching on the mid-panel gives the shoe a deconstructed look, which is further accentuated by the Club C Legacy’s new sole unit.
The sole unit in question combines a clear midsole covering with a more traditional inner component. Opting for a splash of green or orange depending on the colorway, the sole unit looks as if it’s encased in the icy rubber, only appearing more prominently on the outsole.
Reebok’s new Club C Legacy is set to release at stockists such as 43einhlab on January 15, 2021, and will cost €99.95 EUR a pair (approx. $123 USD). Take a closer look at the sneaker above.
