IT'S one of life's biggest myths – but where do your lost socks really go?
Well, baffled sock owners have finally been given the answer – and their minds are blown.
While some of us have spent years blaming the dog, others have claimed the tumble dryer must've gobbled them up.
But, it turns out, there's a very simple answer.
A TikTok user posted a video revealing the secret compartment in a top loading washing machine – and people are joking they owe their dryer an "apology" after years of playing the blame game.
In the clip, a repair man can be seen removing the bottom panel off the washing machine to reveal the compartment is completely stuffed full of odd socks.

The video has since gone viral, racking up over 16.1 million views and hundreds of comments from very shocked social media users.
"Soooo you’re telling me it’s been my washing machine this whole time and NOT the dryer," noted one.
