Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge now has the most expensive royal engagement ring, according to jewellery retailers EST1897. As she and Prince William celebrate their 10th wedding anniversary on Thursday, attention has turned to the future queen consort’s iconic accessory. Ben Jarret from EST1897 spoke about the piece and offered comparisons to the one Kate’s sister-in-law, Meghan Markle, received from Prince Harry in 2017.
He said: “The British Royal Family are known for their crown jewels and luxurious taste.
“Their engagement rings often contain family heirlooms.
“Diamonds are passed down and often re-set into new bands.
“Kate’s engagement ring is no different, with Princess Diana’s being passed onto her from William.”
Mr Jarret continued: “The ring features a 12-carat oval blue sapphire, cut into facets, and surrounded by fourteen solitaire diamonds.
“The setting is made from 18K white gold.
“On their tenth anniversary, we estimate that the ring is now worth £390,000 based on the value of the stone and band.
“Although with the ring being an iconic cultural piece it could fetch hundreds of thousands more if it ever reached auction.”

According to the retailer, the Duchess of Sussex’s ring also holds sentimental value.
The cushion-cut contains two diamonds from Diana’s collection.
However, it is said to be worth £255,500 less than Kate’s.
The Duchess of Cambridge’s ring was originally given to Diana when she got engaged to Prince Charles in 1981.
