On Sunday, October 16, Queen Mathilde of Belgium visited the Maredsous Abbey in the municipality of Anhée in Wallonia for a special anniversary service. She was pictured walking to the abbey carrying a bouquet of yellow and red flowers.

For the occasion, Mathilde opted for a sky blue coat dress called the Blue Belted Wrap Dress by Meer Couture, a designer based in Belgium.

The piece is no longer on sale but it is a favourite of Mathilde’s. The Belgian Queen was also seen wearing it in November last year to visit the city of Spa in Belgium.

At the time, Mathilde accessorised with a Rolex watch and nude heels.

Her blue coat dress features long sleeves, a v-neckline, and a belted waist.

Although a completely different designer, the garment is very similar to one that Kate, Princess of Wales, often wears.

Kate has been seen on many an occasion wearing her blue Emilia Wickstead coat dress. This piece is the exact same colour as Mathilde’s and has the same characteristics.

It too has a wide, open collar, a cinched-in waist, and a slightly pleated skirt.

The Princess of Wales most notably wore the coat dress in April earlier this year for the royals’ annual Easter Sunday service at St George’s Chapel in Windsor.

The first time she wore the piece was for a visit to Luxembourg in 2017.

However, Kate must be a huge fan of this particular coat dress as she has it not only in blue, but in pink and green too.

In May earlier this year, the Princess wore the pink version to a garden party held at Buckingham Palace, accessorising with a matching pink fascinator and pink suede heels.

She also wore tiny dangling pink earrings and carried a pink and white patterned clutch bag.

Meanwhile, the green Emilia Wickstead coat dress was the first version of the garment Kate owned.

A deep forest green, the Princess first wore the garment on March 2012 for the St Patrick’s Day military parade at Mons Barracks in Aldershot, Hampshire.

Interestingly, Kate accessorised it at the time with a thick, black leather belt.

As for Queen Mathilde at the abbey on Sunday, the Belgian royal accessorised her coat dress with silver heels and a matching glass-like clutch bag.

The bag was by Armani Privé and appeared in the designer’s Spring/Summer 2015 couture collection.

Royal fans were quick to comment on Mathilde’s look, and one made the link between the Belgian royal and Kate Middleton, even though the two royal women’s coat dresses are not by the same designer.

Farah Abdelwhab wrote: “I think Mary, Letizia, and Kate wore the same coat.”

Instagram user @luxmeagainpreloved commented: “I love her. She’s a beautiful and statuesque lady, but I find this one quite matronly.”

Sabrina Hala simply said: “Magnificent.”
