Tom Holland is out here making our Spider-Man dreams come true, and we’re officially accepting his latest interview as an early holiday gift. Speaking with Zendaya and BBC Radio 1’s Ali Plumb, Holland revealed that he created a WhatsApp group chat to communitcate with his fellow Spider-Men, Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire. “When you play Spider-Man, there’s only three people to have done it on the big screen, and it’s quite an alienating experience,” he said. “I have my friendships and my relationships with people so that I can express my concerns and talk about my problems and that sort of stuff. But there’s nothing quite like doing [that] with someone that has donned the suit.”
The three stars haven’t had much time to hang out in person, but Holland said he was ecstatic when he met Garfield for the first time. “For me, I don’t know Andrew [Garfield] that well, but as soon as I saw him I was like, ‘I love you so much!'” he said. “I saw him at this party and I was like, ‘I have to go and say hello,’ because we’ve shared something that so few people have shared and it’s interesting. We went out to another party after that and I actually bumped into Tobey [Maguire] — only 20 minutes later! Over the last few years, we’ve kind of been getting closer just because, I think, we’ve all realized that we share something that only us three people share.”
But it wasn’t until recently that Holland extended some of that friendly neighborhood Spider-Man spirit to his fellow superheroes and created a group chat for the three of them. “We actually do have a WhatsApp group,” he said. “We bumped into Tobey at a Japanese restaurant a while ago and I took his number and I set it up,” he said. “I was like, ‘Guys, this is Tom.’ We can’t all share each other’s numbers and not have a group chat. I think I’m the only who who’s ever spoken in it. Like, ‘What’s up other Spider-Mans? This is Baby Spider-Man here. How’s it going?'”
