Spike Lee has teamed up with The Visible Project to release an NFT collection centered on his 1986 feature film debut, She’s Gotta Have It.
The upcoming collection will include a total of 3,945 NFTs of original frame-by-frame stills of Mars Blackmon, who was played by Lee, which will feature “unique generative properties inspired by the film.” Additional art designed by Tré Seals and Adrian Franks will also join the collection.
In addition, the revered filmmaker will serve as Chairman for The Visible Project, which is described as “a new age democratized content incubator, powered by NFT’s from legendary creators. In addition to creating a new mechanism for successful filmmakers and brands to enter into Web3, the Visible Project dedicates a portion of every sale directly to content development from the next generation.”
“We are proud to partner with Spike Lee in his efforts to build a lasting legacy that empowers artists of the next generation,” Habitat Labs’ Eliot Greene said. “This revolutionary collection and initiative will bring a tremendous amount of impact for NFTs within ‘traditional’ entertainment. We are forging a new kind of marketplace where collectors will own a piece of classic cinema history and have the opportunity to fund and greenlight real projects. We are inspired and excited to be launching this incredible program globally today.”
Alexander Gorgi added, “Our goal at Habitat Labs and The Visible Project is to build a world where all artists, brands and storytellers who wish to participate in the world of Web3 can seamlessly do so. Through our technology and advisory services, we provide our partners and clients with the resources they need to cultivate community, tell their stories, and inspire generations to come.”
Elsewhere in NFT news, Universal Music Group filed four trademarks for its Bored Ape Yacht Club band leader.
