Selling Sunset’s Mary Fitzgerald has shared she suffered a septic miscarriage, but is determined to ‘keep trying’ to have a baby.
The real estate agent and reality star has appeared on the Netflix series since it first launched in 2019, with her personal life and romance with now-husband Romain Bonnet also featuring across the five seasons.
Last year Mary, 41, revealed she and her husband, 28, were looking into egg freezing as they started making plans to expand their family.
However, they suffered a setback when none of the eggs they harvested and fertilised were considered good enough quality to implant.
This week Mary posted another video on social media to update fans on where the couple were in their fertility journey, and shared the heart-breaking news.
‘I promised everybody awhile back I would take you along on my fertility journey and I know I’ve been very silent,’ she said in the Instagram video.
‘I’m going to try do this without crying and it’s taken me a couple of weeks to be actually be able to say what is going on.’
At this point she started tearing up and revealed that while she had been pregnant, ‘unfortunately that didn’t work out’.
She then explained that ‘on top of that’, she also had to go in for surgery after suffering a septic miscarriage.
‘The reason I am speaking out now is because I do realise how common this is and how many people go through this and it is not easy,’ she added.
‘I needed a minute because there so many eyes on me and everyone judges and its been rough to say the least, but there is still hope.
‘I wanted to share my journey…we are going to keep trying and I am going to leave it at that.’
What is a septic miscarriage?
If you develop an infection in your uterus while pregnant, it’s known as a septic miscarriage.
Signs and symptoms of this infection include fever, chills and lower abdominal tenderness.
It can be a severe infection and demands immediate care.
Mary then offered her support to others going through the same experience, and said that they were not alone, and ‘we are going to get there.’
Commenting on the post, Romain wrote that it was ‘just the beginning of our journey my princess and I promise I will always be here to support you in every step of the way’.
Their Selling Sunset co-stars and her co-workers at The Oppenheim Group also sent their love.
‘We will always be here to support you and Romain, through anything. Love you,’ Brett Oppenheim wrote.
‘Most beautiful human inside and out,’ Amanza Smith wrote.
‘Love you both so much and will continue to hold you up through all your pain. Yes you will have good news very soon,’ she added.
Former co-star Maya Vander, who also suffered a miscarriage last year, wrote that she was ‘sending love’.
Mary and Romain were married in a civil union ceremony back in 2018, but then had a ceremony filmed for Selling Sunset the next year.
The realtor already has one son, Austin, who she had as a teenager.
Mary has previously said that being a teen mum ‘absolutely’ shaped her life, and pushed her to ‘fight from a young age to survive and succeed’.
Selling Sunset is streaming on Netflix.
